MISS LIZZIE arrived in Stonington, Maine in 1976 to become the Island Ferry between Stonington and Isle au Haut, an island 6 miles South of Stonington Harbor. She has been certified to carry 58 passengers plus two crew from 1976 until December 31, 2015. Her certification could certainly be renewed again provided some work to her foredeck and 5 cracked frames in her lazarette are repaired (please call for details). Seven of these vessels were built by Beal and Bunker on Cranberry Isle, Maine but MISS LIZZIE was built in 1967 as the only 49' LOA vessel - the others were all 45' LOA. The following is a brief history of the major work MISS LIZZIE has had from 1991 to present day: (Most of the work was performed by Billings Diesel & Marina).

  • In 1991, some planks at keel were replaced and entire bottom refastened up to waterline. Some new bronze thru hulls were installed.
  • In 1997-1998 some transom planks were replaced near waterline.
  • In early 2000, several planks were replaced in the garboard area on the port and starboard sides as well as the horn timber.
  • At the same time, the steel fuel tank was removed and repainted and checked. Tank was pronounced "sound".
  • 2005 Billings removed and completely rebuilt the Cat engine. Approximately 600 hours have been added per season. Since rebuild, she has 6,000 hours or so.
  • 2006-2007 Five cracked ribs on starboard side were sistered.
  • 2009 Five more cracked ribs on starboard side were sistered.
  • 2011 Brooklin Boatyard sistered five cracked frames on the portside.
  • In 2015, Billings replaced portside sheer strake in bow area and installed about 20' of new mahogany caprail from bow to forward end of cabin trunk. Also, a new fiberglass vent pipe to engine room was installed. All copper bonding system was removed permanently (was causing some minor electrolysis), and head seacock and plank that held seacock were replaced.

MISS LIZZIE has many years of service left. She would continue to make a very suitable island ferry, whale watching vessel or sightseeing tour boat. The vessel is seriously for sale at this time as a larger Isle au Haut ferry has been built and will be commissioned this summer.

Please call us to get further details and arranged for a showing. MISS LIZZIE is presently stored indoors. Serious inquiries encouraged.

The San Juan 48 combines lobster boat styling with state of the art design, engineering and composite construction. Naval architect Gregory Marshall incorporated a proven hull design into the 48 to provide the exceptional performance which has become San Juan Yacht's trademark. The hull provides comfort and handling in difficult sea conditions. Not only will the boat maneuver and handle like a sports car at speeds up to 40 knots, it will also provide a safe, comfortable, dry ride in any condition. This listing is still under construction. "Living Water" is currently stored inside heated storage and can be seen by appointment.
