Outbound 52 - New for 2008!!
Outbound Yachts is happy to introduce the development of the Outbound 52 Performance Passagemaker. Hull #1 has been delivered and will be complete for a debut at the Miami 2008 Boatshow.
The Outbound 52 has evolved around the same features that make the Outbound 44/46 such a great offshore passagemaker…..a large cockpit, an easy companionway, a light and airy salon, solid fiberglass construction, and sailing performance that has not been compromised by forcing an interior into too small a hull. The result is a yacht of moderate displacement and lines that define excellent sailing characteristics…..resulting in the ultimate in offshore comfort and safety.
With the sad passing of Carl Schumacher, designer of the Outbound 44/46, we were forced to seek a new designer for this project. Carl was one of the most respected designers of the past 20 years, known simply for drawing great sailing boats. He is a very tough act to follow. After talking to many well known designers over several years, we were finally excited to find Tim Kernan of Long Beach, CA. Tim’s name is not well known, but his ability to draw beautiful and excellent performing yachts has been proven by the boats he designed while working with both Robert Perry and Gino Morelli, before breaking out on his own. One of Tim’s first designs, the 70 foot offshore racing yacht “Peligroso”, tore up the California racing scene this past spring and summer with wins in several major regattas.
The easy course is to stay with a well known designer, but we know first hand that developing a boat requires a great amount of pure passion to drive the process. Tim has helped fuel our passion for the Outbound 52.
