I was looking for a good sized classic American blue water sailing yacht and had been working with some other brokers. Tari then showed me a Hinckley that was not quite the right boat but I liked the builder a great deal. Tari was knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. I concentrated my search with her. A nationwide, then later a worldwide search over the next four months finally came up with a 1983 Hinckley SW 59 masthead sloop that was a bit rough around the edges but I really liked the potential of this big center cockpit masthead sloop with some worthwhile recent mechanical upgrades, and was truly impressed with the quality of build. I was in California and the boat was in the Virgin Islands and then Rhode Island, not easy logistics on this deal. Tari walked me through a lengthy process including owner's sea trial, a haul-out inspection where Tari represented me in Rhode Island through the hull/general, rigging and mechanical surveys. This is an indication of the confidence that I came to have in Tari. She was critical to me in ensuring that I bought the boat for a fair price that has allowed me to bring her back to where this Hinckley should be. Our boat went back in the water in July after 800 hours of repair and renovation work. My family and I spent a week sailing our good old boat around Bristol and Newport. We could not be happier. Quite a process and Tari was there to assist me through it all. Big boats are a complex purchase. Tari navigates these waters with a weather eye and expert helm to the benefit of her clients. My yacht broker, the truly amazing and honest (yes, honest yacht broker. I know, I thought this to be an oxymoron as well) Tari Soderling of Newport Coast Yachts had to have been getting tired of carting me all over Southern California to look at meagerly priced vessels. I have little doubt that any commission received from my purchase went directly to her gas bill. Nonetheless, our galavanting from marina to marina paid off one sunny morning in Dana Point Harbor when I came across a 1983 Pacific Seacraft Orion 27.

My wife and I were the owners of the Featured Yacht,"ROSY", an Ocean Alexander 51' Sedan. Tari, though I am relatively new to selling boats, I have been in Real Estate and finance for nearly 30 years and know how hard it can be to deal with other agents. It really surprised me how much work there is buying a boat and you made it happen in a week working with the broker from Wisconsin and having it shipped out all in the same week to California. Sounds impossible to me but you did it.

I worked with Tari in buying my Catalina 380. She learned about what I was looking for, contacted me when new listings came up and patiently accompanied me (and sometimes family) as we looked at them. Even though the boat was located in San Diego and the seller was a jerk, she kept up on all the details and was able to get the deal done. Timing was tricky and she made sure things happened when they needed to. I still own the boat, if I were to sell I would definitely contact Tari first.

Tari, As I set off with Mike to sail the 8000 NM to our home port of Geelong, Australia, I will be commencing a journey that I have dreamed of doing since I was a young boy. I read all the adventure books and would escape with characters such as Jack Hawkins from Treasure Island. Today these characters are as vivid to me as they were 55 years ago. It is now my turn to visit these exotic places. The Marquesas-Tahiti-The Cook Islands-Tonga-Fiji-Vanuatu-New Caledonia, and onward to our waiting wives and families, a 4 month journey. The fact that I am off on this trip in a beautiful Beneteau Oceanis 373 is firstly because 14 months ago I was referred to you by my friend and fellow adventurer Mike Langdon. He was so pleased with his dealings with you when he bought "Gypsy Jae", a DownEaster 38. I had the pleasure of sailing with this quiet achiever from Noumea to Brisbane. Over the 14 months, you, Tricia, and I steered a course through the snares and rocks that are there to entrap a "dream boat" buyer. Over this period of time, you have demonstrated to me that you are a lighthouse upon a dangerous and dark ocean that has it's share of unscrupulous participants, people that are more interested in making their commission rather than achieving for the buyer the realization of their dream. That is why we buy boats, to fulfill our dreams, not forgetting old Rat from Wind in the Willows who said "Ain't nothin' worth half so much doing as messing around in boats". Tari offered to help us find a new boat. After looking all over So Cal we started looking north. She couldn't get on an airplane fast enough to look at boats in Washington. We looked until we found it. She made the deal and went back to Washington to sea trial. This was in 2000 and we still have and love this boat! Thanks to Tari's hard work we got a great deal and never paid her a cent. You will love what she can do for you!
We purchased our first boat and it wouldn't have been possible without Tari. Tari exercised extreme patience from day one in order to help us determine what type and size boat would suite us best. She took us to docks all over Southern California, showed us one boat after the other and explained the pros and cons of each. We never felt pressured to make an offer, increase our offer, or spend less time looking.
