Buying a Boat
SEARCHING for your first boat can be a frustrating experience,especially going through the process of finding the right boat that will suit your requirements and price range.(Remember there is no such thing as a bad boat,merely good boats used for the wrong purposes).
The best recommendations as to where to start looking for your boat is (1) The Trade-A-Boat magazine, a monthly issue which is the number one brokerage magazine in Australia.(2) Boat Shows are always an excellent opportunity of seeing what is new on the market, and gaining ideas for the most suitable boat for your needs.(3) Visit a number of Marina's and discuss your requirements with a reputable Boat Broker and inspect boats of interest in the flesh.
Once you have finally found the boat that suits your requirements, the next step is to make what you think is a realistic offer, and secure the boat by lodging a deposit with the Broker. The deposit should be subject to a satisfactory survey being carried out by a licenced Marine Surveyor.It is also recomended that an engine inspection is carried out and preferably by a factory approved mechanic ,
In the case of manufacturers like Cummins ,Caterpilar or Detroit they have inhouse technicians who will carry out an engine inspection.
