Charlie King, an Indiana native, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1955, and graduated from the University of Florida. Charlie joined the sales force at Merritt Yacht Brokers in 1995. As captain of the swimming team, Charlie naturally gravitated towards watersports and boating, in general. He has owned boats ranging in size from a canoe to a 72’ Belizean built ketch that he chartered throughout the Bahamas for years. Charlie became a yacht broker 17 years ago, because, as stated, "I like boats, and I like people who like boats, so selling them is a natural for me." Charlie's credentials include a 100-ton USCG license, in addition to having his pilot's license. While knowledgable in a wide range of power and sailing vessels, Charlie’s specialty is long-range bluewater vessels "for the adventurer." He enjoys flying and cruising in the Bahamas and hunting with his son Ryan. Contact Charlie King (Cell 954-614-0242) or email to Charlie@merrittyachts.com.

Doug Ortlip was introduced to boating at an early age, as he was only 6 months old when took his first offshore trip to catch tuna in Cape May. While growing up, his family always had an assortment of boats from his grandfather’s handmade fishing boats to his father’s sport fishing yachts. His grandparents on both sides enjoyed boating along with his mother and father. It seems that a career in boating was inevitable.
