What Tim Kernan says about the Santa Cruz 37: The first in a series of new racer/cruisers and performance cruisers from the legendary builder Santa Cruz Yachts. Building on the "fast-is-fun" ethos, the all-carbon SC 37 represents the next generation of performance production yachts-real performance on the water, not just in the marketing material. Carbon spar and liftable keel and rudder standard. A clean interior, featuring modern materials from sustainable resources.
The helmsman or crew can easily adjust the traveller, backstay and mainsheet, located P&S immediately forward of each wheel.
If the keel lifting option is installed, a hydraulic ram is located below the cabin sole aft of the table(keel trunk)under the cabin sole. It pulls a cable that goes to the cabin top through the white vertical pole and drops down mid-keel to fasten to the center of the top of the keel. When the bolts are undone, the keel is then lifted until the exterior ballast bulb is flush with the hull. This is for motoring through a shallow bay to a mooring area or for trailering.
Twin carbon wheels provide the option of driving from to windward or to leeward, depending upon their preference and the conditions.
Rudder retracts with single-hand ease for trailering, getting off a lobster pot, removing weed and going through shallow water with the keel retracted.
Engine access locker directly forward of the cockpit sole gear locker. This locker also contains the diesel tank and fill pipe on the left of the picture.
The centerline table houses the carbon keel trunk that is integrally molded into the hull during hull layup.
