28' Friendship Sloop Wilbur Morse
1903
US$ 49,750
NOTE: Owner's Narrative: Integrity is a 35’ (28 LOD) topmast Friendship Sloop. Her hull is cedar on oak with bronze screws, bronze chainplates (no rust/no galvanic corrosion). She had every plank, frame, floortimber, keel, stem and transom replaced less then 10 years ago. Her deck is traditional canvas over cedar and is in pristine condition. The cockpit sole is laid with oiled cedar and like every piece of lumber on the boat… everything is air dried (no kiln drying which causes greater seasonal explansion/contraction). This season (2006) we had Yankee Marina rebuild her stern while installing a new Yanmar 3YM30 30 horse diesel. We replaced the raw water, exhaust, shaft and electrical systems as well. We replaced the motor mounts, the transmission control and cables as well. The steering was overhauled and she runs like a DREAM. We installed an advanced electronics panel to monitor engine performance as well. Access is easy through a large hatch in the cockpit floor. Easy access means high quality and frequent maintenance. She’s 104 years old, and was built by Wilbur Morse in Friendship, ME. Her original wheel was built by a foundry in Portland and we restored that as well. Her original mast is here too. She runs beautifully (and traditionally) maintained blackened rigging with hand carved walnut deadeyes and high quality rigging that has been served. All wood and bronze blocks are disassembled, cleaned and lubricated every year. They run very very smooth. She’s got a new hand pump head on board with a 40 gallon holding tank complete with “Y” valve. She’s got a two burner gimbaled stove, three large ice boxes and a bronze sink that connects to a 40 gallon fresh water tank. There’s a VHF radio, complete running lights and a handheld GPS made by Garmin as well as full running/anchor lights and an AM/FM radio. She sleeps two very comfortably and has a new canvas awning for summer sleeping on deck. She also has an old Lunenburg, Nova Scotia wood stove that adds ambiance and warmth/dryness on a cold day. Integrity was recently surveyed by Paul Haley, after complete restoration and found to be in EXCELLENT condition.
