Judy Waldman, Principal and Broker, at JW YACHTS has cruised much of the world, primarily as owner of large motorsailers. Combined with business experience, college degrees, and love of the cruising and live-aboard lifestyle, Judy began her career of yacht brokering in 1995.
Judy was a yacht broker with prestigious firms such as Richard Bertram, as well as smaller brokerage companies. Judy’s respect for trawlers began in 1997 with her listing and subsequent sale of Eden Bound, Cape Horn Trawler’s Hull # 1. Although Judy’s sales of sportfishermen, sailboats, express cruisers and various motoryachts was productive, it was her belief in the trawler market and enjoyment of working with trawler clients that led her to establish a yacht brokerage company dedicated to trawlers and long-range cruisers. Judy’s long list of satisfied clients, often repeat clients, has endeared her to a large family of trawler owners. Judy’s personalized service frequently goes beyond the norm both in her search for quality boats and her compulsion to satisfy clients’ yachting requirements. Although home based in Ft. Lauderdale, the Yachting Capital of the World, Judy’s recent travels on behalf of clients has taken her to San Diego, Seattle, Vancouver, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. The trip to Newfoundland was to give a value appraisal on a client’s yacht to help determine the price-range of trawlers to consider for purchase. Judy made a separate trip to Nova Scotia on the bequest of a well-renown trawler builder, to assess their marketing of steel trawlers using Judy as their exclusive sales rep. Judy is called by yacht surveyors valuing her opinion on market value of yachts being surveyed for purchase. Judy is also called upon to offer advice and expertise to fellow brokers. Judy’s reputation for being market knowledgeable, trawler experienced, and for being a cooperative colleague in a competitive industry has set her apart from the average salesperson. Her reputation for integrity and fairness extends beyond just her list of successful sales. Judy’s reputation for knowledge, credibility, and integrity has earned her an esteemed position with boat builders for those clients interested in a new build construction. Judy is an authorized sales representative for A.B. D. Aluminum, Buccaneer Yachts, Cheoy Lee, Nainaimo Boat Yard, Northern Marine, and Yachtsmiths International. Judy has recently been appointed the exclusive sales representative for A.F. Theriault & Sons, the builder of many of the Cape Horn trawlers as well as numerous steel and fiberglass pleasure boats. Judy represented The Cape Horn Trawler Corp. under Peter Sever’s ownership from 1997-2003. She sold 9 Cape Horn trawlers ranging in size from 52’ – 82’. Not only were all buyers and sellers satisfied, Judy earned the right to be Cape Horn’s only yacht broker (a personal and magnanimous letter of reference from Peter Sever is available on request).
