Testimonials

Testimonials:

From Bob Williamson on Legrace, 42’ Aquanaut:
Judy is great. Judy was able to put together a deal that satisfied
everyone. The thing about Judy, she is honest
and knows the business.

From Dan Freedman, Owner of M/V Sea Spirit:
The person I'd whole-heartedly recommend that you speak to, whether about a Sea Spirit or any other trawler, is Judy Waldman. Judy is extremely knowledgeable about trawlers and about all the pitfalls that new trawler owners might fall into. Her advice has steered me away from many mistakes that I believe any other broker would simply have let me go ahead and make. If you google her name, you'll find some of her many postings over the years in all sorts of trawler forums. Many times, her postings are the ones that put an end to the many opinionated arguments that people get into. Truly, for my family she has been the voice of reason., please let me know and I will arrange an introduction. She is based in Ft. Lauderdale, but travels globally to represent both buyers and sellers in various situations. For us, she coordinated our purchase even though we live several thousand miles and time zones away, in Honolulu.

From David Boon, owner of Ramaella, 65’ Custom Steel Boat:

Please feel free to use me as a reference. You have been very patient with us, and after all these years I am a BIG Judy Waldman fan!
I would be pleased to sing your praises. And after receiving a welcoming aboard gift: Judy, just being on "our" boat is gift enough! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

From Naval Architect Bob Johnston (Cape Horn Trawlers 52-63’, Ramaela):
I have always liked working with you and feel you are the best power boat broker in the country and give out your name whenever I can.

From John Richards aboard Windermere, Cape Horn 65:
Thank you for your efforts - we're so appreciative and thankful to own our Windermere!

From repeat client, owner of 47 Great Harbour sold by JW Yachts and then 36 Endeavour Trawlercat sold by JW Yachts:

Dear Judy,

I have owned, and sold, 7 yachts in my boating career, each requiring the use of a broker. When I first came to you for the listing of my boat, it had already been in the hands of two so called high powered brokers in Fort Lauderdale who had the listing for a total of 2 1/2 years without selling it. Actually, between the two of them I had 5 showings of the yacht in that time span. After listing the boat with you, the showings immediately picked up and the result was that the yacht is now sold.

I wanted to write this letter to you to thank you for the extreme work that you did on my behalf. Also, I want you to know that I deeply appreciated your constant contact with me keeping me informed as to what was happening on the listing and finally, the great negotiating skill you used in closing the sell to the lucky buyer of the boat.

Thank you once again. When I next have need of a broker to buy or sell a boat for me, you will be the one.

Good luck and happy cruising to you.
With high regards,

Merle Weaver

Even though Judy touched only briefly on the Cape Horns, she knows more about these than practically anyone on the planet. Agreed. …Judy Waldman (the "d" in her last name is for displacement)... Newbie would have to travel further than Dockwise for better advice.

FROM PETER SEVER, Pres., The Cape Horn Trawler Corp.: To whom it may concern:

JUDY WALDMAN & JW YACHTS

During my decade in the yachting industry as a manufacturer of high-end trans-ocean motor yachts, I worked with numerous yacht brokers worldwide. Many brokers wanted to represent our products, both new and used. I gave many of them an opportunity, one-by-one choosing not to work with them again. My own reputation was at stake in terms of who represented my brand.

Judy Waldman was the only broker I stayed with. Judy first sold my personal yacht, I was merely her client and a fairly demanding one at that – and she did a superb job in all aspects. Both the purchaser and I felt she could not have done any better and both of us walked away with a good feeling for the whole deal.

Then one of my customers decided to sell his yacht – and I recommended Judy who was then with another brokerage firm. Again she did an exemplary job and everyone was very happy with her dealings.

One client at a time I continued to recommend Judy, even after she changed brokerage firms and went on her own, simply because I felt she was the best broker in the industry. It was always an arms-length professional relationship as I had no vested interest except to see my customers get the best service. I placed my personal credibility in her hands by doing so and never had a reason to regret it – to the contrary.

Judy sold all brokerage Cape Horns except one – and in that instance the customer was very unhappy in the end with the broker he selected. He felt he had been misled on a few points, not a rare feeling in yacht deals.

After a few years I learned to respect and trust Judy enough to make her the only broker allowed to advertise and sell the Cape Horn line. Again she did a superb job. When I sold the business in 2003, Judy was interviewed and contracted by the new owner as his sole broker.

From some seven years’ of experience with her, I can attest that Judy is the most honest, straight-forward, hardest-working yacht broker in the mid-size $500,000 – $4,000,000 motor yacht industry. I have no experience with other sectors of the industry so cannot speak with authority on other sectors.

When people called me, as they often did, to say they are looking for a yacht but a new Cape Horn was out of their reach – I also recommended Judy to work with them, simply because I knew she would never lead them astray. Several people took the trouble to thank me for the recommendation after she found them the right (competing) boat.

If I was looking for a used yacht, or if my best friend was, I would only work through Judy because she is such a diligent straight-shooter, in an industry rife with fakes, smooth talkers, lazy people and ‘quick-buck’ cutthroats. I am not exaggerating: the industry seems to attract more than its fair share of unethical people, so it is a prime example of caveat emptor.

Judy has proven she will cost herself a deal and a nice commission – simply for ethical reasons. She will tell the truth even if it hurts her or if it is not what the client wants to hear. How many people does one encounter like that?

Moreover, if she doesn’t know the answer to a customer’s question – and no broker knows everything about every boat – she will say so, and will find out the truth before answering. Most other brokers I know will ‘invent’ an answer on the spot – and the answer will be whatever will help close a deal.

As a result of her hard work and honesty, I never once received a complaint about anything to do with Judy Waldman, either from buyer or sellers – and that says a lot! As a buyer or as a seller, no one will regret working with Judy Waldman or her company JW Yachts.

Feel free to contact me if I can provide any further advice or assistance.

Sincerely,

Peter J Sever
President
