Hutchins Yacht Sales, Inc., dealers and brokers specializing in custom sportfishing vessels (Carolina Customs a sub specialty) along the East Coast, the Bahamas, Mexico and Bermuda. Our superbly crafted sportfishing vessels represent a significant investment in time as well as money for our discerning clients. We negotiate and manage “new build” projects and service ongoing projects for our many valued customers. We arrange “construction funding,” handle trade vessels and negotiate terms of “fixed price” purchase agreements and relevant schedules. Throughout the life of the project, we work closely with the client, the builder and the lender validating milestones and assuring that our clients are protected and represented all the way through final sea trials and acceptance. Because we are the exclusive dealer for our selected builders, we are in their plants daily and have clearly established lines of communication.
When it’s time to purchase, plan, build or sell your boat, we look at the whole market, not just the immediate area around your homeport. Steve Hutchins, our CEO is based in Manteo, North Carolina with most of our staff and specializes in larger complex sportfish vessels. Barry Moore (licensed captain and experienced broker) is also based in the Manteo/Pirates Cove area of the North Carolina Outer Banks and specializes in the “mid-size” sportfish boats such as our exclusive line of all new, all glass, B&D 28’-34’ center consoles and brokerage vessels. With Steve and Barry’s reputation for quality and service our home office has become a “destination” for serious buyers and sellers of these classic boats. Our builders are in Wanchese, NC (7 miles) and Warren Schintzius and staff round out our Southern end (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) giving us over 30 years of experience in the “production boat” end of the market. We have the expertise to accurately evaluate and trade any sportfish or motor yacht.

Custom Carolina’s are our specialty, not only the popular large classes but, most recently, the 28 - 34' center console class that has evolved from the earliest Carolina skiffs to the sleek modern Ocean eating center consoles produced by Buddy Davis and family to meet the growing need of a truly seaworthy craft manufactured from a female mold and hand laid fiberglass with a bottom and topsides unmistakably “Carolina” in appearance and performance.

“New Builds” represent a significant portion of our business. We not only arrange financing and insurance,
but also act as an intermediary developing construction agreements, monitor “milestone” attainment and represent the client throughout the entire build process. Our presence in the different plants not only keeps us current, but keeps the customer in constant communication with the progress of his job in a particular builders’ plant. Keeping both builder and client on balance and in harmonic relationship has been proven to be vital to the client’s final satisfaction with the end product and ongoing service from the builder.
The B&D convertible (60, 68 and 72) is, arguably, the best value in Custom Carolina’s today—Buddy Davis, CEO of B&D has the gray hair and “predictable result” history that mark our greatest and most preferred Carolina Builders—Buddy has teamed with naval architect, Donald Blount, to design and produce this latest line of Carolina produced Sportfishermen. The 60 has 3 large enclosed staterooms, 3 big heads (two of our customers are converting the third head to a luxurious tackle room),the 68 -72'have 4 staterooms and 4 heads and the lightness, agility and speed of a cold molded hull. The 68 - 72' have 4 staterooms and 4 heads. Combining the cold mold hull with Buddy’s penchant for molded glass topsides, cockpits (all mezzanines), and molded houses and bridges (wet bar in the 66-72' bridge), our customers are able to receive a superior product in ride, finish and accommodations at hundreds of thousands of dollars below even the closest competition. Today’s power options of CAT and Detroit common rail motors have us delivering boats in the mid 68 -72' class cruising in the mid 30’s and approaching 50 MPH top end. Ten of these boats have been ordered and will begin showing up in the hot spots of our East Coast fishery from Florida North beginning in October of ’04. Each of the individual owners (with one exception) has been the designated owner since the original jig was set for his boat.

We believe that the Holton’s 30 years of successful yacht building experience and adherence to a policy of always incorporating the latest in cutting technology to products produced will continue to give our clients appreciating assets in an industry that sees more depreciation of products than appreciation. Our other criteria of only representing “New Build” through “fixed pricing” protects our clients and assures that our experienced builders “know and communicate in advance what the project will cost and how long it will take.”
Even the jig on these vessels is cut with modern lasers and the very important bulkheads are manufactured with the jig to yield superior fit (and later, finish), strength and assurance that the vessel can not only respond well to the power options available today but also to the growing development of more and more power in compact packages.
