Robs 1956 Century Resorter Restoration Project
Here is a complete restoration project in the works.
We started by rolling the boat over and removing the bottom. As we thought we needed to replace most all of the frames and the chines. All materials used for frames and chine replacement are being hand crafted from white oak. All chine fasteners will be brass as were the originals
The first few planks are removed revealing the frames and chine. Not Good !!
Well the bottoms all off. Now it is time to rebuild !!
New frames on the way in. All in white oak with stainless fasteners.
The Bad !!
Here at the transom. She will need a complete rebuild. Again all in white oak.
The transom is now ready for the rebuild
The transom is now almost finished. It is now time to build and ruff in the chines
The chine is now all in on the starboard side. She is all fastend in with brass. Now on to the port side
Here we are now . The port side is all fitted and fastened.

Now here the chine is all fitted to the transom. Notice the inner transom bracing all with stainless fasteners. The next steps will be to finish all this up. We will finish fit the tramsom and the next step will be to replace the forward frames and the stem.
The old stem is removed and the new one is fitted and put in. Notice the fit. It is exactly as the original. Now with all frames fitted and installed we will be sure they are all flush with the chine and the keel. Then it will be time for the batons and then the 1/8" okoume marine grade plywood installed before the new mahogany planks.
Now all the battens have been fitted and installed.Next we will pre fit all the okoume plywood. It will then be removed and final fitted. We then will 5200 it to the frames and batten's.
The okoume plywood is all pre fitted on the starboard side.
Port side all pre fitted.
Now the 5200 is on the frames and battens. We will now reinstall and fasten all the okoume plywood. Next comes the planking !!
Now planking in progress. The planks are all pre fitted and then will be removed. The 5200 will then be applied.Troweled on to the planks and then fastened.
View from the stern.
Bow planks. Notice the fit. The same as the original Century planks.
More planking in progress. The Port side is all pre-fitted and drilled. Final seam fitting is next. Then the 5200 and a lot of screws !!
Here we are. All finished fitted and ready to come off. We will now remove all the planks. Apply 5200 and trowel to the plank. The plank is full covered with the 5200 so there is no space that is not covered.
Well here we are the planks are now fastened and ready for the finial sanding before prime and bottom paint. We will now finial sand. Replace the hull side planks that we removed and finish the transom. Then roll her over and begin the hull sides and the top sides.
Hull side planks all fitted and fastened.
Transom frames all replaced where needed and ready for planks.
Transom planks all fitted and ready for the finial sanding.
All filled and sanded and ready for the primer !
All primed and ready for one more sanding and them the bottom paint. Almost time to roll her over !!
All bottom painted with two coats. The hullsides are stripped. Next roll her over and start on the topsides.
Now we are rolled over and the hullsides are stripped and ready for finish sanding. We will then bleach two times finish sandand stain and varnish. The bilge will also be sealed and painted.
We are now all bleached and finished sanded. The top sides and stained and we are ready for the hullsides. We will then apply two coats of varnish to seal her up.
Before we begin finish coats of varnish it is time to clean up the bilge and paint. We will apply two coats of original bilge coat paint. We then will install the engine and rewire the boat. Then six more coats of varnish and then the new original color interior.
Well we are working on the interior. We found we need to rebuild the engine box and most all other side panels. The seat frames were all in good condition and we only require refasting and painting.
Here the bilge is all painted with two coats. The rudder is all installed and the floor boards are fitted and next will come the installation of the engine.
This is a sample of the craftmenship we can do for you.We can do all aspects of a project from a full restoration to refastining to varnish work.
You will be able to keep up with the progress of this project as I will be updating this page weekly.
