Soon they began to take the boat to Catalina and the family decided they needed a larger vessel and upgraded to a Luhrs Sportfisher. Currently Det & his family enjoy boating on their 31’ Sea Ray.
Detlef joined the Alamitos Sail and Power Squadron and quickly got involved with classes, teaching, sail racing and crewing on various sail boats and in no time moved through the bridge chairs as Commander and was a Squadron Education Officer for three years. My dedication to boats started at 9 years old when I got to work for nothing on a sport fishing party boat that my father took me for a half day fishing trip. This dedication has lasted all my life and as I finish my years as a yacht consultant, I look back and feel grateful for the opportunity of spending my life doing what I love. My experience includes 20 years with the Orange County Sheriff’s department as a harbor patrolman. During that period I ran my own yacht maintenance business, owned several sport fishers, and built 4 boats. I left the harbor patrol to take a job with Hans Christian as commissioning manager, and worked my way to sales manager, then vice president of West Coast Sales. During this period we sold over 800 Hans Christian yachts. After I left Hans Christian employment due to the ill fated luxury tax. I still held the rights to sell the Hans Christian line, and became sales manager for Far West Shipyard and brokerage. I introduced the Los Cabos 30 sport fisher, and opened Craig Beckwith Yacht Sales in Newport Beach. I then became a member of the California Yacht Brokers assn. and was on the board of directors for three years and became first vice president of the CYBA. I closed my brokerage due to landlord problems, and went to work for several other very good brokerages. I recently chose to become a member of Heritage yachts based on their professionalism, their 4 offices from LA Harbor to San Diego, and a stellar reputation. I look forward to finishing my career with Heritage, and promotion of the Pantawee Marine Company LTD. of Thailand, The builders of the Hans Christian and Hallmark line of yachts.
