Where are Seawinds made?

The Seawind Factory is located in Bellambi, North Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. (Its about an hour south of Sydney.) Click here for a Map of Wollongong . Seawind moved to this 60,000 sq. foot facility in 2000. The new expanded factory is one of most advanced boatbuilding facilities in Australia.

Over the past few years, the company has invested heavily in the plant to increase safety and production efficiency. With the new factory, overhead cranes and heavy equipment, the company has the capacity to build both production and custom catamarans up to 60 ft.

The company presently builds the Seawind 1000, the Seawind 1200, and a 35ft day charter catamaran, the Seawind "Resort" 1050. Both the Seawind 1000 and 1160 are available for export to the United States. Seawind now employs over 50 skilled boatbuilders building 26 boats a year, with a boat launching or shipping overseas every ten days.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Seawind 1000 hulls are built first--hand laid up fiberglass using closed cell foam (similar to Klegecell). The hulls are constructed as a single U-shaped unit. This is the strongest and safest way to construct the hulls, as it avoids the inevitable underwater seam that would otherwise result from joining two hull halves together.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Hull and decks are together. Note the fine entry of each assymetrical hull at the bow, with the outward curved flair of the hull above the waterline sweeping back from the bow. This enables the bow to cut through the waves efficiently at the waterline. In addition, the flare not only provides buoyancy forward, but also provides increased interior space for additional comfort.

How do Seawinds get here from Australia?

Even though Seawind Catamarans travel half way around the world before arriving in a US port, it is a new boat when delivered to you. There's no wear and tear on the boat (or its engines) because Seawinds are shipped over from Sydney on the deck of a container ship. It's delivered to the port closest to you--either Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or Savannah, Georgia.

The Seawind 1000

In both the charter and private versions the Seawind 1000 boasts four double berths. Located in separate areas of the boat they give privacy and spaciousness not seen on any similar sized yacht. Good performance in a cruising catamaran means a marriage of style, performance and function with an overall requirement for safety, security and people friendliness. The Seawind 1000 blends these features beautifully using modern lightweight materials and traditional boatbuilding skills. With the Seawind 1000 you get a performance cruising catamaran with an interior second to none.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Using an elegant blend of traditional timber craftsmanship and modern materials the Seawind 1000 interior is practical to use, easy to maintain and a joy to live in. The galley would do a 60 footer proud. Located in the starboard hull it is well away from traffic and has huge panoramic windows to give a light and airy workplace.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Luxury features such as propane stove, huge refrigeration and separate freezer, pressurized water, unlimited storage in cupboards and drawers all combine to make this a galley to enjoy.

Shown here are the refrigerator and freezer, kept cool by an incredibly efficient eutectic cooling system that runs on power captured by the solar panels.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image In both the charter and private versions the Seawind 1000 boasts four double berths. Located in separate areas of the boat they give privacy and spaciousness not seen on any similar sized yacht. In the private version (shown here) the port hull is given over to the luxury of the owner with a huge master cabin located amidships and the head aft.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Many American Seawind 1000 owners opt for the "Port Forward Cabin Modification," as shown here. With this modification to the private version, the port forward bunk is replaced with a huge hanging locker and a desk with fold down seat. The overall result is a large and totally private master cabin.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image The Seawind 1000 also features a large head compartment. This fully lined and fitted bathroom is a far cry from the small rooms often found in similar sized craft and is easy to use under way. The optional propane hot water heater provides hot water on demand--no need to run noisy engines before cleaning up!

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image One of the many attractive options of the Seawind is the "barbie" integrated into the aft seating area behind the traveler. What better setup to entertain friends and family?

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image Up on deck is another area where the Seawind 1000 shines. The covered bridge deck offers 360 degree views and the covered cockpit offers security from the wind, sun and rain without isolating this area from the aft deck.

The beauty of this design is that it integrates the deck saloon into the aft deck so that your crew won't separate into sailors and non sailors.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image The view forward is excellent--unlike many other catamarans--providing safer maneuvering around the harbor and offshore. For the cruising sailor, the covered bridgedeck also makes total sense. It gives a place away from the wind and sun where you can keep an excellent eye on what is happening while letting an autopilot steer you to your next anchorage. With the option of opening windows you can control the amount of ventilation you require to keep you snug when it's wet and cool when it's hot.

Havre de Grace Yacht Sales & Marinas image The Seawind packages all these features in a fast and very easy to sail catamaran. With its powerful but easy to handle rig and well laid out control systems, the Seawind 1000 is a cinch to handle on your own. Sheets and halyards are easily accessible to both helm stations so you have full control of your vessel at all times. The mainsail drives the boat well but is docile to handle with a wide traveler and powerful mainsheet system. Tacking is a breeze with the easy to handle blade jib. The underhung rudders, U-shaped sterns and efficient keels make the Seawind 1000 to do what you want it to.
