BOAT HAULING: SEATTLE TO SAN DIEGOBOAT HAULING: SEATTLE TO SAN DIEGO

Uncle AL: The Customer's Pal

Uncle AL: The Customer's Pal

Small world story involving Al and I. As we worked together at Staff Jennings Boating Centers before his departure to HIYC we use to talk about fishing all the time. We both enjoyed sharing stories but his were always more productive than mine.

One day I notice Al has some pictures on the counter of some salmon he had recently caught and I asked him where he had caught them and he replied that he was fishing at a friend of his over in Hebo on the Nestucca and I reaffirmed his success with a someday you got to take me over there and he just nodded politely. Then later on he would show me some more pic’s and the same story of fishing over at his friend’s place on the Nestucca. Then Al moves on over to HIYC where we don’t have the

opportunity of talking about fishing like we had.

Several years pass and I have moved on out to Newberg and find myself gravitating toward the Nestucca quite a bit and it’s learning the river on my own. Well one day I have paid the accepted dollar to enter into private property to fish and mozy on down to the waters edge and start casting my line in and bam! Fish On!! and this goes on for awhile that it seemed like every other cast was fish on. During this exciting moment I see a truck coming down from the other side and a fella jumps out and starts letting me know that I’m fishing on private property and I yell back over that I put a dollar into the box and he tells me that I crossed over into his property and that dollar doesn’t give priveleges to fish his property. After hearing the fella out I ask who I needed to ask for permission and he yell’s back over his name and I politely leave.

The following week I wanted to get back in to that fishing hole so I called ahead and asked for permission and was granted permission to fish his property. When I arrive,

The fella and I start to visit a bit and I hand him my business card and he see’s Staff Jennings Boating Centers and he looks up at me slowly and says, I have a friend who use to work over there at Staff Jennings and I asked him who it was. He says, Al Anshen.,and the light went on and I smiled and said, “ You’re the one that Al was always talking about when coming over to the Nestucca to fish and show off his pictures”.

So it became our inside fishing connection that I was honored to fish his honey hole but never with him by my side and we had always said we would go over there together to fish it someday.

He always made it a point to come and visit with me at the Boat Show and be sure to say hi to the Mrs. for him when he was leaving. He was always good guy to me.

Sorry to hear about Al, my sincere condolences. Whenever I had a question or problem, I always went to him first. If he didn't have the answer he would find out and call me back. Great guy, he said he was doing alot better with the cancer last time we spoke. He will be missed. Glad he went out doing what he loved.

Al was a great help when I bought my 1850 from HIYC in 2002; always had an idea that worked and good "old salt" advice for a newbie. This is the announcement from IFISH: Tragedy on the water Sunday Not sure how many of you heard about this but the parts manager at Hayden Island Yacht Center, Al Anson, had a heart attack while fishing on Sunday morning and didn't survive. I don't know all the details but this is as I heard it... He was coho fishing with friends out of Garibaldi and the guys noticed he was setting in the V berth with his down and they ask him if he was ok. He said yes so they kept fishing. After awhile they pulled their gear to run back up hill and when they turned around to put gear back in the water he was laying on the floor. They started CPR and called the Coast Guard which met them with one of their small boats but didn't have any AED so all they could do was escort them in to the waiting ambulance. They couldn't do much for him by the time he got to the hospital in Tillamook. Al was a nice guy and had recently been battling cancer and I think he was getting better but was taking quite a few drugs which can be hard on your other organs. Al will be missed... -----------------------------------------------------------

I just returned some parts to Al on Thursday and as always he was helpful and pleasant to deal with. He always took the time to answer any question I ever had concerning my striper and has even gone to bat for me when dealing with the factory. Al always had time to talk boats and fishing. My condolences to John and the crew at Hayden Island and to his friends and family.

I'm in shock. I hope Al makes it to that trout 'zipper lip" spot I told him about. He was so helpful. My condolences to his family.

May he Rest in Peace, and God Bless his family. <'((((>< -------------------------------------------------------

I never met or even talked to him but he sounds like one of the good guys. May he rest in peace.
