Boat Yard & Services
WELCOME TO GREAT ISLAND BOAT YARD
Located in Quahog Bay in the best protected cove possible, GIBY has been in business since the early 1970's. The proprietors, Frank and Ellen Kibbe have extensive experience in the boat business along the Coast of Maine. Bob Sharp, the yard manager and the crew have been in place since 1990. Stewart Hart arrived in September to handle the Brokerage.
The boat yard currently has 170 boats in storage, a 60 slip marina, 40 moorings, a four bay service building and an expanding crew currently at 13 including a factory-trained diesel mechanic. We are currently undergoing the expansion of the service department and the addition six more slips.
SERVICES
Great Island Boat Yard can handle any service issue that a pleasure boat up to about 45 feet can develope. This year 170 boats were hauled and launched, two major re-fits (a 34' fiberglass sailboat and a 41' wooden down east style power boat) were successfully completed as well as several other "winter work" projects; varnish, mechanical, painting including two AWLGRIP hulls, glass work and carpentry.
From a re-power with two new NANNI diesels to the building of a replacement rudder on a 19' blass sailboat to a full-dress varnish project on a HINKLEY Bermuda 40, the staff at GIBY has solved a wide range of problems.
The 170 boats in storage range from 18' outboards to 45' trawlers. We see the full spectrum of boating issues and have the experience to deal with them.
If you are making plans to cruise in Maine, consider leaving your boat with us for the winter. We are thirty minutes from Portland, two hours plus from Boston and a short five miles from I-95. Please give us a call.

LOCATION
The marina is at 43 degrees 49.792 N and 069 degrees 54.915 W. Quahog Bay is just east of Baileys and Orr's Island and is accessible from the east via the lower New Meadows River or from the south in straight line from a mark just east of Baileys Island. The bay contains a couple of lovely anchorages and is approached through two narrow cuts that create a fully protected bay. Orr's Cove extends to the north at the top of the bay. We are about eight miles from the direct east-west route from Portland to Boothbay.
