The Europa series of Heritage class Grand Banks, in all size ranges, have proven to be highly sought after models. The 42 Europa is, it has been said, the reason for the strength of that market appeal. The covered side decks and cockpit, the open flow of space from cockpit into the salon, the easy stairway to a flybridge, a flybridge that rival larger yachts in the piloting and entertaining space, and yet two exceptional cabins - the master with an island berth - add to the extensive list of Grand Banks attributes to give rise to a perfect yacht for our waters.

A yacht easily singled-handed. Or cruised by a couple in luxurious comfort. With accommodation for family or guests. Capable of extended cruising. And equally at home gleaming at a yacht club outstation. But “Grand Lady” was developed with a specific objective clearly in mind. To be capable of cruising to remote places. Safely, reliably, and in comfort. The owner has 65 years of yachting experience, and has cruised extensively in many parts of the world, often in extremely remote places. He developed “Grand Lady” based on that experience. Systems have been thought out to deal with eventualities. Such as a heavy wind in remote anchorage. To be safe, the situation may require measures such an extra long rode or even the setting of two anchors. This task is straightforward on Grand Lady. He incorporated redundancy where ever necessary: in the design of the nav electronics, by modifying the mast and boom to be a useable lifting device, even to hoist the dinghy if the electric crane fails. There are special tools aboard. What if a propeller was damaged badly, and an engine had to be shut down - he created a special tool to lock a propeller shaft to permit running long distances on one engine without damage to shaft log or gear of the other.

So, beyond the concept of a Europa, “Grand Lady” is a truly exceptional yacht. There are other reasons to act on this opportunity to become the second owner of this exceptional yacht. “Grand Lady” is:

  • One of the newest 42 Europas that will ever be available (one of the last of the line);
  • The most refined of the nine year run of the wide body GB42EU;
  • This hull incorporated the 2005 “updates” - a long list of improvements;
  • Grand Lady was extensively optioned at the factory, with numerous custom details;
  • Commissioned and outfitted by the Grand Banks authorized service center, Delta Marine Service;
  • One owner since new, kept covered in winter, and in recent years, in a dedicated boathouse (available for separate purchase);
  • Exceptional ,optional CAT power;
  • Rigorously maintained. “Grand Lady” is proven reliable. Immaculate. A gleaming example of the spectacular Grand Banks 42 Europa.
  • And, perhaps above all, this yacht is ideally suited for cruising our waters.

The owner is fastidious. The manuals are catalogued, stored under the forward berth, and have been read. Each item of regular maintenance is listed, and the schedule over time or hours noted, and signed off as the interval is reached, and the task is completed. Preventative maintenance results in a safe, reliable, comfortable yacht ready for sea. More can be done to maintain a yachts beauty. Only boat shoes are worn aboard, respecting teak soles. Thoughtful canvas covers are tied over the rail at the side gates to save varnish scrapes as crew step aboard. Practical solutions incorporated. A solid Larch wood step is installed discreetly over the flybridge steps, as a safe place to stand fitting the tender cover. The mast on most Grand Banks has some limited functions. Fitting a winch and installing an internal halyard and topping lift made the mast much more useful - it can shifting the tender to lift off the outboard with the powered crane, for example, or to raise and lower the mast to fit the boathouse, being another. Where is the Groco tool for removing the fuel deck fill when needed? In a canvas holster tucked away below the helm seat. Why not put the engine block heaters on a thermostat located in the salon, so the whole boat is kept at the right temperature in winter, with the hatches left open. Installs are created to keep things handy, protect surfaces, reduce wear, simplify tasks. These details abound in “Grand Lady.”

A boathouse is available for separate purchase in Ladysmith Marina, BC.

"Grand Lady" shall be displayed on our sales dock at Port of Sidney Marine.  Please call to confirm before visiting.
