DOWNEAST ROYALTY. Really. Eastern Boats owe their original hulls to the late Royal Lowell, a legendary Downeast designer whose grandfather, Will Frost of Beals Island, Maine, developed and built the first fast lobsterboats of the early twentieth century. Eastern's original 18 is a Royal Lowell design, and we still build it today. BUT, note well that today's Eastern 18 takes advantage of modern composite materials like knitted fiberglass fabrics, foam-filled fiberglass stringer grids, rot-free Penske Board transoms, and quiet, efficient four-stroke outboard engines from Yamaha and Mercury. Over our company's three-decades-and-counting, we have acquired a number of additional classic Downeast hull designs, most from the board of Royal Lowell. The shape of coastal waves don't change. Royal knew the hull forms that handled them safely and comfortably.

The Sisu 22 Hardtop or Traditional Bass-boat

Originally designed by Royal Lowell, Sisu Boats were built for over thirty years in New Hampshire and in Canada. The basic design has proven to be one of the best small sea boats ever built, and modern composite materials plus a couple of design tweaks have made this great design even better. Sisu is a Finnish word that means stamina, fortitude, and “guts”. The Sisu 22 is aptly named. Bringing this heritage together with Eastern’s reputation for quality construction creates an ideal boat for cruising or fishing. The cabin offers shelter, a V-berth, and a portable toilet without compromising cockpit space and utility. Choose a traditional framed “bassboat” windshield with Bimini top at the helm or an open-sided hardtop pilothouse. An economical 115-hp four-stroke outboard is all the power this new Sisu model needs for great real-world performance.

Eastern 22 CC

The Eastern 22 Center Console design originated from our successful 248 hull. Input from our dealers and customers was gathered and new tooling created to bring you all the features you desire. The new large console allows for all the latest electronics while providing room for a usable head. All composite construction, molded inner liner, V-berth seating and rear splashwell seating are a few of the features that make this a best seller.

Eastern 248 CC

Eastern 248 Center Console was born off our newly designed 248 hull. The hull maintains a soft chine, tracking keel and relatively flat bottom aft. These features allow for a soft, smooth ride with minimal horsepower compared to a typical boat of this size. All composite construction, molded inner liner, large V-berth seating with storage are a few of the features that stand out. A roomy center console that’s comfortable with even a dozen people aboard!

Eastern 248 Explorer

Now take that powerful 248 hull and add a classically-styled hard cabin and pilothouse, with sliding windows and coring in the structures above the gunwales to retain the hull’s inherent stability. Put a V-berth, head, and hanging locker in the cabin. Mount the swiveling helm and companion seats on storage boxes but offer the option of a settee to port with a countertop/sink/refrigerator unit just aft for food preparation. For maximum cockpit space and quiet operation, hang the 150-hp four-stroke on an Armstrong transom bracket, with a transom door and a bench seat. Is a 150 enough for this spacious, comfortable boat? Consider a recorded cruising speed of 25.9 mph burning 6.2 gallons per hour. Try to find a comparably-equipped 24-footer with numbers like those!

Eastern 270 Islander

Stepping up to the 270 Islander means a 10′ beam, a gracefully-flared bow, and a hard-chine hull that rises easily onto plane with twin 150-hp four-stroke outboards on an Armstrong bracket. Even so, this new model retains the soft-riding characteristics at useful speeds for which Eastern boats are known. A cored hull above the waterline as well as coring in the cabin and pilothouse sides provide strength with light weight for a boat of this size. Below decks, a forward V-berth converts to a settee with table, while an enclosed head offers a shower. A mid-berth under the helm deck offers additional sleeping capacity or storage. A flatscreen TV for the cabin is standard. The helm deck provides a galley-up aft of the helm seat, opposite a double forward-facing companion seat, with a double lounge seat and an optional aft facing cooler seat to port. An optional aft Bimini top can shade the upholstered transom bench seat, and a bow thruster can ease the docking process.
