There is only ONE "MORNING STAR"
There is nothing else like her.
She is unique unto herself. She has had only two owners, the designer and her current owenrs. The two parties have worked closely together over the years to maintain MORNING STAR and recently went through a major refit, converting her from a displacement vessel of 11 knots to an 18 knot planning vessel. Hinckley in Maine performed the upgrade meticulously with Cap. Norman Sanborn overseeing every aspect of the project, taking almost a year. That involved, among other things, removing the 4-71 Detroit naturally aspirated 140 HP diesels and installing Cummins six cylinder in-line 500 HP diesels, associated shafting, struts, etc., tripling the horsepower. She now is a fuel efficient trawler at 10 knots but has the capability of running up for faster passages, running from weather, etc., or cruising all day at 16 knots. And low hours on the engines.
While Hinckley Marine was involved in the project, they inspected every aspect of the vessel and made any necessary upgrades and repairs, including a new hydraulic davit system allowing for a larger tender, new Awlgrip paint all around and new varnish. The list goes on and on. So, though this fiberglass vessel was built in 1979, she has been maintained and refitted extensively as befits a custom, one of a kind successful design, similar to the loving care given a wood classic design.
This unique vessel is not suited for the average amateur yachtsman. If you are looking at Hatteras 65' Motor Yachts you need not take a look at MORNING STAR. If you appreciate the unique design of this vessel which by the way is being cruised by her owner's now, would be happy to forward more information and photographs, and arrange a preview.

Remarks
MORNING STAR under went a full 1 year refit in 2000 at the Hinckley Yard in Maine. During this time both engines were removed and replaced along with the transmissions. The vessels plywood and teak decks were removed and also replaced along with some of the insides of the bulwarks. All windows were removed and replaced. On the interior, the carpet was replaced as well as numerous appointments including all countertops. The pilothouse saw a major upgrade in electronics and all the wiring in the engine rooms were replaced along with new sound insulation. The watermaker was also new at this time as well as the yacht's air-conditioning. Overall, more than $1,200,000 was spent.
MORNING STAR is a very unique yacht with the interior volume feeling more like an 85' footer compared to a 65' footer. She is in excellent condition, having been professionally maintained by her second long term owner. She offers tremendous range and sea keeping abilities. A perfect yacht for those seeking a safe long range cruiser capable of making it in and out of the smallest of harbors and coves. A truly special offering.
