WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT BOATS!
Welcome to our site and thank you for visiting.
Spring will be here before you know it and now is the time to list the boat you wish to part with or seek out the perfect boat for enjoying this coming summer. It is a perfect time to secure a deal on a boat in order to have it commissioned and ready for you to enjoy this year. And a perfect time to get your old boat out on the market for a new buyer to prepare to their desires prior to launching in a few short months.
Consider coming to take a look at a boat that is of interest. Most are out of the water now and either stored indoors or available to see under shrinkwrap. Buy her now and have her fully set up for your needs come Spring 2014!
We pride ourselves on our prompt and thorough attention to all of our clients - whether they have entrusted us with their boat to sell or are seeking solid input from us regarding their next purchase of a boat. The recommendations we have included are all ones we are very happy to have earned. We are grateful to those customers who have provided them.
From the sellers of a Pearson 530 this year:
"David recently sold my hobby and winter home of 24 years, the Pearson 530 "Sea Return". During the time she was listed David never deviated from the marketing plan outlined when we first sat down and discussed how to approach a very sluggish market. He was the right person for my particular circumstance: a multiple boat owner with doctors orders to put down the winch handles. I first met David when he was a Maine State Legislator, an honest Mainer always trying to do the "right thing". Years later when he retired from a senior position in State government he thought long and hard about the next chapter in his life. I think he made the correct choice, the brokerage business needs more experienced, knowledgeable boatmen and women. People that are passionate about boats, big and small. Only that kind of person can earn the trust of both buyers and sellers. I think a brokers job is primarily as a facilitator, someone who can bring the deal together to the satisfaction of all involved. It helps a great deal if you are also knowledgeable about boats, he's also a pretty good photographer. This is David's niche, in my case both buyer and seller are pleased with the outcome and I'm sure we will stay that way. I'm pretty sure they think they paid too much and I'm equally sure I left money on the table but everyone ultimately left smiling. The buyers are very pleased with their new home and I'll sleep well knowing she will be properly cared for. If you are looking for a good boat or have one you must part with, I can highly recommend you work with David Etnier." Bob and Brenda Tetrault M/Y BJoyce, Port Canaveral, Fla. and Portland, Maine
From the sellers of COMPASS ROSE:
"We recently sold our beloved 39’ downeast flybridge cruiser, COMPASS ROSE, through David Etnier Boat Brokerage. As hard it was to let her go, David made the transaction as smooth and as painless as possible and realized a fair selling price for us. In addition, for several years David delivered our boat back and forth between Maine and Massachusetts to facilitate our seasonal use. He always did so without a hitch, promptly and on schedule. We strongly and without reservation recommend David’s assistance for buying or selling your boat and for its careful transit if needed. David is a knowledgeable and dependable professional."
Tom and Kim Litle, Newburyport MA
From the buyers of COMPASS ROSE:
"We have bought and sold many boats and working with David has been a true pleasure. He is incredibly responsive, and represented ourselves and the seller fairly. We were looking for a unique and special boat. David brought his extensive experience and profound depth of knowledge to find the vessel and expedite the transaction. We would highly recommend him both as a consummate professional and a straight up guy."

From the seller of a Pacific Boat this year:
“David recently sold my 26’ Pacific aluminum boat. David was very helpful from start to finish. We had a few glitches - not his doing - and all were handled quickly, and all ended well with both parties happy. If the need arose, I would definitely use him again.”
Chuck Rooney, Brunswick, Maine
From the seller of a Holland 38 lobster boat that we recently found a new home for on the west coast:
"I recently listed and sold my boat through David Etnier Boat Brokerage. Working with Dave was enjoyable as he went above and beyond to compliment my needs. My boat was sold in a very timely manner and the experience was smooth and efficient. I highly recommend David Etnier as your boat brokerage!"

From the seller of a Beneteau this year:
"When I purchased my 35 foot sailboat in Michigan I felt as if I escaped from the broker with only a shred of humanity remaining in place. After trying, halfheartedly, ten years later, to sell my boat on my own, I selected David because, well, because he looked like someone I could trust. Maybe not the best reason to choose a broker, but from that first phone call, David instilled confidence in his ability to represent my boat and my ambivalence about parting with my summer home. It took him just a few days to become intimately familiar with my sailboat and to begin to work his magic.
I’ve never met David. I live in California, the boat was in Rockland and the new owners live in New York. David’s communication was clear, immediate, and emphatic. He enabled the entire process to be fluid and clear. I feel as if a longtime friend sold my boat for me. I can’t wait to meet my ex-broker."
Mark P. Isleboro, ME and Bonita, CA
"David Etnier was the perfect person to sell our boat. He is a classy fellow with a well run business. His attention to detail is unsurpassable; and, we would certainly ask him to sell another boat. We recommend him wholeheartedly!!"
Ted and Priscilla R. North Haven Island - recent sellers of a Wasque 26
From the buyer of a Cape Cod Shipbuilding H-12 1/2:
"David Etnier was selling a remarkably well cared for Herreshoff out of his shop in South Freeport and he spent a great deal of of time with us viewing the boat, gathering paperwork, and checking on the various items that rookie Herreshoff owners need to know about. David is a kind, responsible person who always follows through on his promises in a very timely manner. Our sales experience with him was excellent and we would hope to be counted among his friends as the years go forward. We highly recommend him to anyone considering the purchase of a boat."
Keith and Marilyn B.
From the buyer of same Padebco:
"Just wanted to thank you again for helping us evaluate Blueberry-----you taught us a lot about how to assess a boat like she and made us feel that honesty and integrity were central to the way you conducted your role----it’s unusual when a boat purchase ends with both buyer and seller feeling the outcome was more than acceptable, indeed just about perfect----takes a special broker---hope when we decide to “move up” that we can meet again------warmest regards---joe and sara"
Joe and Sara V. Maine and Massachussets
From the former owner of a Padebco we sold last summer:
"I am happy to highly recommend David Etnier as a yacht broker. He recently completed a rather complicated set of arrangements for the sale of my 21 foot Padebco. I was out of state and then out of the country during the time that the boat was sold. David handled all the details of the negotiations and arranged the survey and seatrials as well. He was very good humored in helping to round up my boat's various pieces of equipement + the necessary paperwork. In short, he facilitated everything in a prompt and efficent way and helped me sell the boat within weeks of putting her on the market. A good man to work with!"
Louise H. Greenwich, CN and Small Point ME
And from the buyer of the same H-28:
"David, I want to thank you for your exceptional service with my first sailboat purchase. As you know, I was extremely intimidated by the entire process, but your patience and honest advice helped me through. I especially appreciate your generosity of time and expertise as you answered answered my many calls and questions even after the sale was complete. It has truly been a pleasure working with you.
Thanks again so much!!!"
Amy C. Connecticut
From the seller of a Parkins H-28 we recently sold:
"It is a pleasure to recommend David Etnier as one of the finest boat brokers I have dealt with over the past 30 years. He handled the selling of our Herreshoff 28 with speed and efficiency. What makes David different and better is his skill in communicating accurate information quickly, his obvious focused mission to get your boat sold and his ability to coordinate the post–offer phase to bring that offer to a successful conclusion. In the past many boat brokers have given us a sense that there's nothing going on. With David you always know what he's doing and what the status is. I hired David because of his sales record and now I understand the reason for his success."
John G. Harpswell, Maine
"It has been a real pleasure working through David to buy North Star. We had had our eyes on this particular boat for some time, and when the time was right we contacted David, and we’re very glad we did so. We’d never owned a large boat before, so our knowledge base was very limited. David’s expertise and prompt, personal attention was outstanding! His knowledge of the buying and selling process was invaluable in ensuring we got the right boat for us at a very fair price. Equally impressive was his willingness to take time with us on the boat after the sale, explaining the various systems aboard. This has greatly shortened the learning curve for us and boosted our confidence and enjoyment of boat ownership. To any prospective buyer we say – don’t go it alone, call David!"
Dan & Becky S. Gardiner and Harpswell, Maine. Recent buyers of a 39' Mainship
"Penny and I would like to especially thank you for all of your valuable assistance. Buying a vessel that is about 11 hours round trip away, and the boats home port being an island, has it's challenges. The fact that you were able to make the process (with the exception of the weather) as smooth as possible was greatly appreciated. Your ready updates when the almost inevitable fall weather delays arose and communicating with us and others involved in the process were invaluable. We would highly recommend your services to anyone looking for, or selling, a quality vessel."
