William T. Darling started in marine business in 1965 as a charter captain after having been a mate and captain on other boats from 1959 on. Having worked his way thru college as a commercial fisherman, his love and respect for the sea would lead him into the boat business full time in 1968. In 1968 he gave up teaching high school and moved full time into the boating industry and was called upon to develop and manage Stone Harbor Marina securing Bertram Yacht as its principle franchise. In 1969 he established Darling Yacht Sales and obtained the SeaCraft Franchise and within a few years was the largest SeaCraft dealer in the US. Treacherous inlets and dangerous sea conditions were paramount in securing many of these franchises where safety and performance was the chief consideration. In 1972 Mr. Darling established and built Avalon Point Marina and remained in the business until semi retiring in 1984. He then bought a 45’ Hatteras and began chartering in both NJ & FL and remained so until the year 2000 which brought him back into the yacht sales business. He is currently president and CEO of Darling Yacht Sales, LLC.
Fern M. Massimo started working for the original Darling Yacht Sales in 1972 as bookkeeper,
office manager and all around ‘gal Friday’. She not only set up and organized the office,
but helped set up Coast Guard classes at the marina, worked with the Marine Trades
Association and registered and documented boats. She was involved in all phases of the
Marine industry. When Mr. Darling retired she moved to Ocean County and ran the largest
amusement park on Long Beach Island for 16 years. Now she is back in Cape May County and
executive assistant for Darling Yacht Sales, LLC
