“MARIBE II” WAS DESIGNED AS A RACING YACHT BY THE REKNOWNED NAVAL ARCHITECT WILLIAM TRIPPS FOR AN EAST-COAST RACING SAILOR JUST BEFORE THE CHANGE OF THE RACING RULE FROM THE CCA YO THE IOR. THAT CHANGE RENDERED THE YACHT INSTANTANEOUSLY OBSOLETE FOR RACING AND THE ORIGINAL OWNER RESCINDED THE CONTRACT REFUSING TO TAKE DELIVERY. THE BOATYARD SUED AND THE YACHT WAS IMPOUNDED AND PLACED IN CUSTODY, CARE OF A BOATYARD IN YACHTHAVEN, CONNETCUT. I ACQUIRED THE BOAT IN 1974 AND RACED IT IN LAKE MICHIGAN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IN 1993THE RACING INTERIOR WAS STRIPPED AND CRUSING ACCOMODATIONS WERE INSTALLED. THE BOAT REMAINED TO DATE IN FRESH WATER IN LAKE MICHIGAN AND STORED IN HEATED STORAGE EVERY WINTER. IT IS “SHIP=SHAPE AND BRISTOL FASHION” AS ANY BOAT CAN BE.
