Model History
The 2900 Open was introduced in 1993 as a pocket cruiser alternative to the larger 3100 Open and a replacement for the retiring 2700 Open. She features a modified version of the semi-v hull form from the 3100 but with more deadrise (19 degrees) at the transom to improve the rough water ride of the slightly shorter hull. Over the years, there were a number of various cockpit arrangements offered depending on one's desire to cruise, fish or do both with the boat. There were no major interiors modifications over the years, only the normal model year to model year upgrades to the minor details. The 2900 Open Classic was the last and best generation of the boat. The Classic package included many features that were normally options and some features that had never been available before, like the long awaited factory fiberglass hardtop. Production ended on the 2900 in 2007 after an impressive production run of almost 15 years. Today the 2900 Open has truly become a classic , her conservative lines, exceptional quality and excellent performance are traits that never go out of style.
Construction
Tiara uses premium polyester and vinylester resins along with the finest in E-glass knitted fiberglass cloth in the layup of their products. The 2900's hull is solid fiberglass below the waterline and is cored with Baltek balsa core in the hull sides above the waterline. The hull has 19 degrees of deadrise at the transom and features two running strakes, reversed chines and shallow prop tunnels. The stringers are a grid system design made of hand-laid fiberglass and cored with marine grade plywood. The deck layup is similar to the hull's but with balsa coring used to stiffen the walking areas of the deck. The hull to deck joint is a "shoe box" style that is chemically and mechanically fastened and is covered with a stainless steel rub rail. The entire boat is hand-laid to the highest standards.
Vessel Walk Thru
The interior arrangement is simple yet well thought out. The companionway is on centerline and the cabin is entered by descending two steps. Immediately to starboard is a fore and aft facing dinette with a beautiful teak table. The dinette does convert easily into a good size double berth. Storage and mechanical access is found beneath and behind the seats. Opposite on port and aft is the enclosed head. The head has a full fiberglass liner for easy cleaning and there is an opening port for additional ventilation. Forward on port is the compact galley, perfect for fixing a quick meal. There is a small cedar-lined hanging locker at the forward end of the galley area. The main berth is located in the bow and is offset to starboard. The berth offers comfortable accommodations for two for a weekend or a week. The is one large overhead opening hatch and a total of (4) opening ports for great ventilation.
Salon
The cabin area is beautifully finished in teak. The headliner is a white vinyl for easy cleaning. The sole is of teak and holly finished in a satin polyurethane for protection, as is the rest of the interior teak. Tiara does a wonderful job with the interior joiner work, this is as nicely finished an interior as you will find in a boat of this size.

Tiara is the benchmark by which all other open style boats are judged both aesthetically and structurally. There is truly a timeless since to their traditional lines that adds long-term value and this beauty is more than skin deep. The quality and attention to detail in this product is rarely seen in production boat building today. The 2900 is a perfect example of what sets Tiara apart. The 2900 was in production for 14 years with no major redesigns or alterations. If you were to take the first 2900 made and the last, put them side by side, there would be no doubt that you were looking at the same boat; this is the sign of a great design destined to be remembered as a classic. "Lucky Penny" is a shining example of the last generation of 2900 Open. She is wonderfully outfitted, including the hard-to-find diesel generator. Her caring and knowledgeable owner has every system in proper order. If you are searching for a 2900, this is as fine an example as you are likely to find. Tiara structural warranty in effect until July 2011.
