Malö Yachts is a well-recognized high quality builder of oceangoing sailboats in Kungsviken, Sweden. The factory is within a few miles of Hallberg-Rassy and Najad. This is truly the land of the highest quality builders of ocean going yachts. The company has been in business since 1939 and is proud to employ about 100 people among them some of the most experienced shipwrights and joinery experts in the world. Every vessel is built for an owner and the company takes pride in semi custom build capability. The workmanship is top notch from the quality of the solid fiberglass hull to this beautiful mahogany joinery and impeccable stainless steel.
The Malö 42 is a beautiful sailing boat with a modern underbody with a long cruising fin keel and skeg mounted rudder. The modern sugar scoop transom is a sought-after feature. The sloop rig makes the boat easy to sail and she'll sail well on any point of sail, and surprise you to windward. This boat is a perfect size for a cruising couple. It is a traditional two-stateroom, two head layout. The forward stateroom has a big comfortable V berth with an en suite head (port side) and a separate stall shower. The salon has a U-shaped dinette to port with a settee to starboard. You can easily seat eight people for dinner if you like. The galley to port is easy to cook in at sea or at anchor. The forward facing traditional navigation station is just perfect. The aft head is on the starboard side behind the nav station. The aft cabin also has a spacious double berth. And of course there are two sea berths with lee cloths in the salon. The high-quality Mahogany joinery is accented by warm LED cabin lighting including Alpenglow overhead cabin lights and reading lamps. The cabin sole is Teak and inlaid Kato. Of course there are all the necessities including cabin fans and the diesel forced air heating system.
We are very pleased to offer this capable ocean going sailboat. Bizim has taken her owners from Seattle through the Panama Canal, through the Western Caribbean, and then across the Atlantic through the Med to Turkey. In the 2012 and 2013 season they sailed the boat from Turkey to Africa and across the Atlantic then through the Caribbean and finally to Annapolis. The Malo 42 has served her owners well sailing swiftly and safely and being properly equipped for cruising with simplicity allowing her to be easily maintained by her owners.
This vessel is nicely equipped with a Yanmar 100 hp turbo engine with a high output alternator, generator, solar panels and 900 amp hours of batteries (replaced March 2013), 12v refrigeration, beautiful Port Townsend sails, including storm sails, removable inner forestay for the storm jib and a separate sail track for the storm trysail. Virtually all the sail handling is done from the cockpit with single line in-boom reefing for the first two reef points. She is well-equipped with good navigation and communication equipment, great ground tackle, Spectra water maker, dinghy and outboard and even a bow thruster.
In preparation for the voyage from Turkey to Annapolis, the boat was upgraded with significant maintenance including:
All the standing rigging was replaced in July 2012 with Dyform wire and new terminals. This included running backstays and new mast rivets. Plus, the halyards were replaced.
The mainsail is new in July 2012--Quantum full batten mainsail.
The genoa was inspected and the UV cover replaced.
This also has been properly maintained by a capable cruising couple. As soon as she arrived in Annapolis this fall the boat had the bottom sanded and painted and all the zincs replaced and the topsides waxed and shined. She is clean and ready for you to take the helm.
