Almost anywhere one sails to, especially way over some horizon, one will definitely see one of these ever so popular stout world cruisers; the Corbin 39. They seem to offer many things to a world cruising sailor; things like strong construction, a comfortable and livable interior, good solid sailing characteristics and excellent value. The Corbin 39 was one of the first true pilothouse cutters, which seems to be the norm that most builders today are trying to copy. Corbin built about 200 hulls, most of which were completed by the owner. The Corbin 39’s flush deck has a vast expanse compared to cruisers of similar size. The cutter rig, inside and outside helm station, and lots of light and room not only contribute to why this boat is a great cruiser, but also why she is a wonderful home.
Designed by Marius Corbin, this is the boat that won the April 1998 "Cruising World" survey for the best "Cruising Sailboat". The issues of performance, comfort, and safety were compared against hundreds of sailboats, and the Corbin 39 emerged at the top of the list of "Best Offshore Cruising Sailboats". Author John Holtrop wrote an article entitled "Crunching the Numbers of What Makes a Top Cruiser" and on that basis ranked the Corbin 39 number 1. Another reputable cruising author, Nigel Calder wrote: “The Laminate schedule of the Corbin 39 is impressive, calling for 11 layers of fiberglass mat or roving, in addition to a 16 mm Airex core. One of the strongest layup schedules in the industry.”
This Corbin 39, Basjoc, was built in 1988 in Canada with hull number 191, and professionally finished by Concordia in 1989. It was the last Corbin finished by Concordia in South Dartmouth, MA, as mentioned on a small brass sign in BASJOC’s pilot house.
Our offering is a beautiful example of this ever so popular line. She has received the care that she deserved throughout her ownership process. When we went aboard her just recently while she was docked on Back Creek here in Annapolis; she gave a warmth and an impression that she is ready to be a wonderful home and a wonderful platform to venture over the horizon and beyond; all for very little money. Her attention to detail, construction and finish are above average.
The previous owners spent their first few years enjoying the Chesapeake Bay on Basjoc and enjoyed the sense of safety and easy movement, the large galley, the convenience of the bow thruster and shallow draft allowing them to anchor in small coves.
Bajoc then went to New Found Land via Bermuda in May 2007 and earned the owners complete confidence in strong winds and high seas.
The next step was taking off for a year and circling the Atlantic, via Iceland and Scotland, down along Spain and Portugal, to Cape Verde, and back through the Caribbean. The salon easily held 11 Irish friends around the table, all playing some instrument and singing Irish Ballads!
In 2011 Basjoc sailed to Labrador and fully utilized the radar and AIS integrated and forward-looking sonar, as well as the wood burning stove during one of the chilliest, foggiest summers in Labrador history.
Basjoc was continuously upgraded, varnished, repaired and cleaned, but now she needs someone new to give her TLC, like every good cruising vessel deserves. Basjoc is equipped with renewed standing rigging, new mainsail and stackpack in 2008, monitor windvane steering system, autopilot, storm sails, and good ground tackle. The owner wishes to move on to another adventure and wants her sold quickly. She is on the hard in Annapolis for easy viewing. She will not disappoint and she will not last long on today's brokerage market. Good boats sell fast.
Basjoc helped her last owner realize a life long dream of sailing the Atlantic circuit and now it is your turn to adventure!
