"Steel Magnolia" represents a rare opportunity to own a yacht that is truly "one of a kind vessel". Her historic exterior styling, exquisite interior, and economic engine package offer a lot to be desired in a motor yacht.
She was originally commissioned in 1971 for Count Reggie Di Varmo, an Italian Count. She was built by Fairmile Marine at the Berwick Shipyard on the River Tweed in England. Launched and Christened in 1972 she eventually crossed the Atlantic Ocean on her own bottom.
The current owners purchased her 1996. Their first task was repowering her with Detroit Diesel 6V71N engines, naturally aspirated, in 1997. Since that time, she has accumulated approximately 800 engine hours. After a voyage to her current home in the Houston, Texas area, she went through a seven year long total refit. All of the interior was totally removed, with only the steel structure remaining. All flooring, walls and ceilings were totally rebuilt. This project was completed in 2005. The high-gloss cherry wood interior will rival any interior found on customs yachts of recent vintage. Mahogany woods, custom granite, marble and tiger onyx were tastefully utilized to create a luxurious and warm interior. Appliances, air conditioning systems, electronics, steering systems, windows and furnishings were all renewed to complete the refit.
During the summer of 2010, she was hauled and had her bottom paint renewed. Additionally, two new 21 Kw Norpro generators were installed along with a sonar system, a stern thruster and all new batteries.' This vessel is transatlantic capable. She is built of 3/8" Corten steel. She has a 17' high "northseas" bow. Her economical operation, luxurious interior accommodations and world class styling make her one of the most unique vessels offered for sale anywhere. Come see her, you'll fall in love.
