I have always loved Boston Whalers.....until I took this Grady White Marlin out a few times over the last year or two. In this listing you will find over 150 pictures, many more than the typical brokerage layout. The reason is in the details. There are simply so many. I did not even visit the factory site, so I am sure I missed a few, as those mentioned here are simply what I have noticed when out underway and through inspecting this vessel for you.

If you are looking for an exceptionally well and thoughtfully equipped Grady White, you will be happy; and if you are on the fence between a Whaler and a Grady White, then please take the time to look at the details listed here, and flip back and forth between this Grady White and any Whaler on the market and compare for yourself. This Grady White is a cohesive unit. Even in heavy seas you are not under the impression that you are on a vessel which is simply a device to hold boat accessories.

When many folks look at a boat, attention is given to the helm, layout, and overall impression you get when you step aboard. While these criteria are important, too often, the most important thing is bypassed and over looked.

Hull form and construction.

In this listing you see many pictures of the hull and the actual vessel underway, in a variety of modes from slow, through the speed range to flat out. The Grady White Marlin 300 is a very well balanced system. She rises out of the water, reducing wetted surface as throttle input is increased in a very predictable manner. You instinctively reach for hand holds to steady yourself and brace for the g’s of acceleration, but not for the fear of stumbling around, found on lesser stable fishing and cruising platforms. She does not pound in heavier seas as other vessels do. You can see this in her very sharp entry, with the additional raised area, which starts just aft of her stem line and continues to transition in to her hard roll-limiting chine. This hull design also fillets the wave and rolls it outward, producing a very dry ride. Her stiff hull and heavy lay up is clearly seen in areas like the chain locker, and in her transom area. People just don’t get nervous on her when you are out there. When you are on many boats at speed, conversation always hits a lull when the going gets lumpy. I have just noticed people staying more relaxed and enjoying the quiet and jar-free ride as they enjoy the outing of the day on this Grady White. Her current owner is an avid diver, fisherman, enjoys crabbing, and his family also enjoys outings along the lines of more tourist and camping style adventures. Flying Buddha answers her call to these duties reliably, safely and efficiently. You will read text and see photos which show that while she is a highly competent high performance machine, her interior appointments, shower and systems all combine to also make her quite at home and civilized during your stays at our more cosmopolitan destinations.

Much more user friendly as a fishing vessel than an inboard, her cockpit is huge and clutter free. Should your passion be deep sea fishing, there is ample room for a fighting chair, and clear access around her entire perimeter to work your catch stem to stern with out fouling your line. Those clients I have had which have dealt with the huge hump in the middle of the cockpit of an inboard diesel sport fisher, never go back to that design once they have had a flat, open and clear cockpit. In regard to efficency, tilting her power plants up and completely out of the water reduces maintenance issues, costs, and downtime associated with fixed power plant designs. If you are not trolling, her anchor pulpit really aids in giving several stations to cast spinning or fly rods, should the conditions and dining habits of your intended catch dictate. The pulpit is also the ideal place to reel in a loaded crab pot without bashing it in to the side of your beautiful boat. While an ideal candiate for deep water fishing, her 19" draft ensure access to shoal areas as well. Bonefish beware. Her 19" draft with her engines raised also eliminate the need for a tender. You can take her right up to shore! Should you feel you still need a tender, you can securely stow it on the load worthy roof.

Should trolling be the activity of the day, hit the button and drop her kicker, flip on the autopilot and dial in the proper heading and speed for consistent bait presentation. Should deep sea fishing be the task at hand, she has a convenient transom door to drag a monster in the back door, or use it simply to allow easy access for those folks and pets who want an easy way to get in the boat. Her Model name is a Marlin....you need to have a safe and secure place to slide one in the boat!

Her current owner enjoys the use of the fresh water shower on the aft deck to warm up and flush his wet suit after a day of diving in our chilly waters.(in addition to fresh water in and outside, pressurized salt water is available at the bait tank) Should you be catching smaller fish or bottom fishing, your thighs keep you steady against the padded perimeter of the cockpit as you can stand hard up against them, due to the design feature of a place to stick your toes under the toe kick, without stubbing them. With your body supported in this fashion, you are safe and secure, with both hands free to work your catch with rod or net. Grady Whites excell in the areas of ergonomics superbly. This is not an item you are likely to notice. This characteristic only makes itself known with the lack of thumps, trips and bumps. Anyone who has walked in to the sharp edge of any part of a lesser boat will immediately relate to this. Those are the boats that flex and squeak underway. As tolerances increase and decrease with the differing loads on the vessel, doors don't open smoothly, and gaps open and close between components--pinching fingers, etc..... Not on a Grady White. They have eliminated every pinch point I can think of.

Something seemingly insignificant like cup holders are everywhere. When the action hits, you need to put down what ever is in your hand, right where you are. Whether it is your Leatherman or a cold drink, you can always shed your personal items without running to the dash or putting it on deck, creating a safety hazard or mess. Her over-abundance of rod holders are found both inside and out. When there is a fish on, you don't have to run around finding the one last empty rod holder when you are clearing the other rigs to work the live rod. This abundance also means more rods can be loaded ready to replace others as they come in.

The aft bait tank is plumbed for live bait(and located where the mess flows overboard), keeping your bait lively for days, or you can use it for a cooler. Pressure salt water is on hand there, as is a holder for hook pliers and knives, out of harm's way. A second wet locker with drain is accessed in the cockpit, just aft of the second seat. This locker can be used for dry storage, or bait/cooler duties. The second seat itself is a very comfortable and secure place to sit. Check out the Whalers fore-aft aligned guest seating. If you want something, or someone, to be able to stay put at sea, it needs to be oreiencted athwartships, not on a fore/aft alignment. Not the position to be in when skipping across the peaks of choppy seas. Seating along the sides of a vessel turns in to launching pads when hit with the big surprise wake from a passing ship or the unexpected big beam wave. I have been in both the helm and second helm seat in this Grady and have been comfortable in all the conditions encountered without having to get up and hold on to something, let alone spill a soda..

Cooking, barbecuing or just entertaining outside? Her outside galley sink and beverage station are ready….again, take a close look at the Whaler ads….not even there. Her excellent lighting and entertainment system compliment social functions inside and out as well.

All of the lockers you see in the cockpit area drain to the cockpit itself, and not to sumps in the bilge. This keeps the boat easy to clean and keeps her from smelling like last season’s catch. Even the way she smells is designed in.

She also has a one piece indoor outdoor carpet which comes out of the cabin, should the week’s exploring include some sandy or muddy destinations. Hose her out when you return. Inside, you will find an actual dining table on a very robust mounting pole. Another item ignored too often. Anyone who has ever tried to cut a steak on a typical yacht’s dining table knows exactly what I mean here.

Also the size of the dining area. Truly a place you all can eat a meal on. (note Whaler’s cocktail table size dining table…..not even big enough for two to eat comfortably) In addition, Flying Buddha has a 12v refer with ice tray freezer so ice and condiments can be left on board. This means being able to go straight to the boat after work for an outing without picking up fresh mayonnaise and ice every time you want to steal a nice evening out on the water. Cubes for your beverage await as well.

With safety as the primary design criteria, you will find that there is no propane on board, and that she is void of sharp edges, toes stubbers and head bangers. There are robust and secure stainless handrails everywhere you instinctively reach for one. (take a close look at any other brand you may be considering with some of these points in mind—I have seen more thought put in to where to hang pictures than some manufacturers put in to grab rail locations). This may not be a huge item on the average buyer's criteria sheet, but it may very well be the difference between enjoying an uninterrupted week on the water and stopping it short for a minor emergency room visit.

Electronics and navigation? Top Drawer items here. Commercially proven Furuno navigational equipment and full instrumentation. Her Floscan fuel consumption meter is the main tool you will be using underway to dial in her hull trim, outboard angle and throttle position for the smoothest and most efficient ride possible for the sea conditions and desired speed.

Her Isinglass is scratch free and her canvas is in top order. No frayed edges, or fading. Her canvas covers completely conceal her Isinglass and entire cockpit for security, UV protection, dirt and rain when not in use.

She sleeps 4 in very nice comfort in two areas. A full double aft, under the bridge deck and a vee which can make up as a double or two singles forward. This particular Grady White has had her pulpit reinforced so that oversized ground tackle can be utilized for a sound night’s sleep. Her current owner did this as when he dives, he wants her right where he left her when he comes back up.

She has a well protected pulpit for standing and casting, and also to ten to weighing anchor. Fi the seas are rough and the anchor is coming up or down there is no need to leave the cockpit as she has a power up and down switch at the helm.

Many of today’s boats have rounded edges and no bulwarks, solely depending on the rails to keep you on board. This Grady White has large bulwarks so that should you fall, you will not slide under the rails and in to the water.

Her aluminum work is impressive. The welds are clean adn the structure is robust. She has a roof top you can definitely stand on and is fully supported, should you find that a tower is in order for spotting the tuna schools off shore. Her hull is very heavily laid up and evidence of that is at the base attachment points of the aluminum structure as there are no spider web gelcoat cracks which are present on many lesser boats.

Her trailer (a 2005 / Shorelander aluminum triple axle)is also an item not to be ignored. Running well in to 5 figure price tags, these trailers are rigid aluminum, with salt water lighting, brakes and lubrication protection. A 3 axle model with perfect rubber as shown. Her trailer makes this vessel and excellent candidate to haul to Cabo seasonally, or just to keep maintenance to a minimum between outings.

Flying Buddha has diesel fired forced air heat, at the helm, inside the cabin, and the system also supplies defroster vents for clear vision on the nasty days.

When you slow down and take a detailed look at the Grady White 30 Marlin, and compare her head to head with any vessels we all perceive as competition, I believe you will come to same conclusion as I have in that you will not only have more pleasurable, successful and safer outings, but you will also have less downtime due to her design features which address these topics, as well as simply making her easier and quicker to clean out when you get back home. Her radar and plotter make her an ideal candidate to safely pick your way around islands and obstacles regardless of weather, time of day or night. Should any of your guest be tired after a day out, she is smooth and quiet enough for those not needed on deck to nap peacefully on the way home after the fireworks.

Grady White has a fiercely loyal following here in the Northwest and owners’ groups take them from Guatemala all the way up the coast to Alaska for rendezvous and private outings. After an hour on this one, you will be blown away as I was with how small the Puget Sound can be, and if we share the same love of the water, your next call will be to your insurance person adding Mexico to your coverage area as well.

She is accurately represented here, and all pictures are of her, taken within the last week. I think that, through this listing and your inspection, this Grady White Marlin 300 will illustrate why so many Grady White owners are not first time vessel buyers. We all want to do it better next time, and Grady White owners have the rich satisfaction of knowing they have.

You may expect an exceptional survey with this fine offering.
