“Gusto “ is a fast cruiser-racer from the drawing board of Chuck Paine. The first impression is of traditional appearance, but it takes a few minutes to realize that the combination of raised deck profile, Herreshoff style cabin trunk and built-in wind screen is an artful melding of several traditions. The underbody is all Paine and gives a wonderful turn of speed combined with a feather-light helm that makes the tiller steering a very personal connection with the vitality of the vessel.
The execution of this design by builders French and Web picks up where the designers left off and adds just the right touch of refinement to the details that leaves “craftsmanship” as an inadequate description. There is an artist’s eye at work that carries this near flawless execution to a level that sits very comfortably on the world stage.
