A few short years ago Clark Mills was casting about a new idea in a shoal daysailer that would rig and sail easily, quickly and comfortably. It began to focus on developing a new "modern breed of Catboat". The Sun Cat was designed as an easily driven, roomy day boat and over-nighter with a shoal draft to gunk hole along coasts and in harbors not accessible to more burdensome yachts. Outfitted with the MASTENDR quick rig system and, stainless steel centerboard/trunk, as installed on her little sister the Picnic Cat, the Sun Cat will provide endless hours of convenient trailering and maintenance free enjoyment. Individuals who appreciate timeless design and quality fabrication, will warmly relate to the "New Tradition" that the Sun Cat brings.
Introducing the brand new Com-Pac Sunday Cat! This model is brand new and has just been released for the late summer 2009! Hull is identical to the extremely popular Com-Pac Sun Cat, but the deck and cabin design is all new!!
The concept of the Sunday Cat was to have a boat with the cockpit space of our current Sun Cat Daysailer but with the convenience of an enclosed porta potty area. It also provides shelter in the event of inclement weather. There is an abundance of storage space that is accessible through the seat locker hatches in the cockpit in addition to the little cabin.
The cabin is not only large enough for the porta potty and gear but there is plenty of room for a cooler. The Sunday Cat is not a sleep aboard boat but is intended to be the ultimate daysailer that provides room for all of your gear and the ability for you to have extended day sails because of the available porta potty.
The Sunday Cat boasts, as standard equipment, the newest version of our Mastendr™ Quick Rig Sailing System, the Mastendr Plus™. The Mastendr Plus™ allows raising the mast from the cockpit. There is nothing to attach or prepare. Simply raise the leverage yoke, pull the slack out of the line, and raise the mast as if it were a sail. View the video to see this in action. The answer to the trailer - sailor's lament: "I love sailing, but I hate setting up." The Picnic Cat is a 14 foot, gaff-rigged cat- boat that is a pure delight to sail. But it is our Mastendr Quick Rig Sailing System that makes it unique. Setup and retrieval are effortless - a matter of less than 10 minutes - because gaff, boom, sail and hinged mast re- main on the boat while trailering, as do the shrouds. All that's necessary at the launch ramp is to raise the mast, attach the headstay with the quick release lever and sail off. It's as simple as that. On the road, the mast, gaff and boom stow securely on the boom gallows, assuring worry-free trailering. Unlike a sloop's, her mast, because it steps in the bow of the boat, does not extend beyond the end of the boat when folded to horizontal. In the water, her stability comes from broad hull form and low-center-of-effort gaff-rigged sail plan. The centerboard and centerboard trunk in the Picnic Cat are made of stainless steel. This unit is a subassembly that is built in our ma- chine shop and then installed into the bottom of the Picnic Cat. By building the unit in the machine shop, we are able to build every one exactly the same, and stay within machining tolerances vs. the large tolerances required for a fiberglass assembly. Also, the stainless steel centerboard assembly is much stronger and many times less susceptible to damage than traditional fiberglass centerboards. The trunk is fitted over with a varnished, solid mahogany box in the finished yacht. If you are familiar with Com - Pac Yachts, you'll know what we mean by Com - Pac quality. If not, think of solid, hand-laid glass, elegant varnished mahogany, solid teak, brass rubrails, flawless stainless and bulletproof construction. The Picnic Cat's timeless design is from the drawing board of Clark Mills, who drew the lines of our 16CB and 23/3 as well as the Optimist Pram and Windmill One Design.
