BROKER'S COMMENTS

SEAFIN combines the period elegance of a classic English motor yacht, with all the luxuries and amenities of modern day cruising. At present she is a working charter vessel with a reputation for high standards of seamanship and hospitality. As a very successful charter yacht - indeed she is notably the busiest yacht in the Solent - she has been a serious revenue earner and as such provides the ongoing opportunity of a significant income. Typically she has taken between 70 and 90 charters per year of which in 2008 repeat business was 60%; the balance new clients.

Configured with a high standard of accommodation and facilities, she caters as well for the needs of private charterers as for the corporate hospitality market. She could equally provide a discerning owner with an extremely well equipped and laid out yacht of considerable style and ambience. Indeed as well as the obvious options of totally private use or full charter employment with paid crew and skipper, some middle way part private / part charter could appeal to a hands on owner with the clear benefit of reducing the charter running costs.

In 2007 SEAFIN enjoyed a substantial refit with the aim of satisfying the requirements of the MCA and holds the Class 6 certificate for a crew of up to 10 and 30 passengers. To maintain the certification she has received regular scheduled and post voyage maintenance covering all aspects of her seagoing, operational, mechanical and electrical as well as the accommodation and hospitality aspects. She comes with a comprehensive and detailed operations manual, routinely updated and demonstrating compliance with the MCA rating regulations.

In addition to a fully detailed equipment inventory, the manual covers all operations, of which the principal procedures (and this is not an exhaustive list) are covered under the headings:

- ALARMS & PA SYSTEM
- REGULAR MAINTENANCE
- SAILING OPERATIONS
- ENGINE ROOM OPERATIONS
- DOMESTIC OPERATIONS
- EMERGENCY OPERATIONS
- OPERATION AND DEPLOYMENT OF LIFERAFTS AND BUOYANCY AIDS
- TENDERS
- PLAN FOR CO-OPERATION BETWEEN SEARCH AND RESCUE SERVICES
- AND PASSENGER SHIPS (PRIVATE)

HISTORY

SHOANNE built in 1961 of pitch pine with oak frames and a teak deck, was one of the last wooden vessels built by John J Thorneycroft of Southampton. In 1964, she moved to Scotland and was renamed MINALA. In 1967 she became a member of the Profumo family, moved to Eire and was named SEAFIN. From 1971 to 1986 a new owner based her in Jersey, Sark and Cornwall with sojourns into the Baltic. She has sailed as far as Italy, France, the Balearics Paris and London.

CONSTRUCTION

SEAFIN is of classic wooden construction with pine planking laid over and clenched with copper nails to the oak steam bent frames that run right over the centre line stem. Most of the decking and floors are of solid timber and also copper clenched to the hull and center line structures. In addition to the frames and floors, the hull is supported by five diagonal plank main bulkheads. There are additional less structural bulkheads forming partitions.

The main fore, aft and side decks are of caulked teak planking supported by the underlying timber deck beams and beamshelf. Some smaller deck areas are of sheathed marine ply. The fore side and upper decks have varnished timber rails supported on white painted steel stanchions.
DECK AND UPPER DECK EXTERIOR

SEAFIN boasts very substantial deck space, not only fore and aft and alongside the main accommodation - but accessed by companionway steps from each side deck, a magnificent upper deck. This open area deck enclosed by stanchion rail affords not only a superb vantage point for viewing but more than enough space for guests to congregate and be entertained.

ACCOMMODATION

General
SEAFIN has a well equipped and fully instrumented control bridge forard of the main accommodation. The main deck provides the principal public accommodation with a variety of access points including to the side decks. Below decks are to be found the sleeping cabins, five in all with seven berths - and washing etc facilities. Access to accommodation below is generally via a central companionway.

Aft Deck Saloon
This is a light and airy, multi-purpose room leading directly on to the open aft deck.
It serves as a dining area or a meeting room with a multi-media systems and a 72" drop down screen and is an ideal indoor viewing platform for those wanting to watch the world sail by from a position of considerable comfort.

Saloon to Galley
Her fully equipped, open plan galley is set at the forward end of the saloon and would please any professional chef. Counter tops serve as a bar and four very comfortable purpose-made bar stools are just perfect for cocktail hour. With a sofa and easy chair and it all combines to provide a very comfortable and convivial setting.

Saloon to Aft
The after end of the saloon, which leads out via linked sliding timber doors onto the aft viewing deck, is raised to deck level and hosts SEAFIN's library, sound systems, PC and boat deck wine store.
Sleeping accommodation
Located in the aft accommodation section of the vessel, is a large, roomy, twin-bedded cabin with very comfortable beds. Well lit and airy but furnished in style with varnished oak, this is a very fine guest cabin with substantial locker storage. There is access then to the head, shower and wash basin forard to port.

Next forard are single cabins; one each side with access to heads, shower and wash basin to starboard.

Beyond the engine room is the double-bedded master cabin, with en suite shower and head. It is comfortable and roomy with a settee and plenty of storage space. Resplendent with traditional English oak beams and high gloss varnish it will please the most discerning owner or guest.

A further single cabin in the focsle with en suite WC and basin.

Galley
The galley is well equipped with electric double oven, multi hob micro wave, double fridge (additional fridge and freezer storage in the tank room), ice maker, dishwasher and stowage.

This "skimmer" from the twenties is capable of reaching a speed of 36 Knots. She is part of a series of six craft designed and built by the Thronycroft Yard in London. The first of these boats was Miss Betty II. The drawings of these six craft are in the archives at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich London. The second and third boats of this group were built for Thornycroft Brazil and the fifth for Thornycroft in Singapore.
Miss Betty II appeared at the 1927 London boat Show in September and in Yachting Monthly Magazine an article said: “On the Thornycroft Stand, in addition to naval engines, a 30 foot fast skimmer is on display. It is Miss Betty II owned by Count Johnston Noad. The craft has standard Thornycroft engine of 140 hp. six cylinders, which goes at 1600 revs and reaches a speed of more than thirty knots.”

This boat is a direct relative of the English Navy “Torpedo boats” used during WWII. Today only 2 of these ships remain, one owned by the Thailand Royal family.
John Thornycroft was a pioneer in using the “redan”, a little single step that interrupts hull surface reducing water’s impact to increase speed.
Later this technique became familiar for all sports boat producers. Then, we saw the introduction of the traditional planing bottom, resulting in the term hydroplane.
Thornycroft shipyard was famous not only for the military and civil boats they built, but also for a series of racing boats, like Miss England II and Miss England III which won several speed records.
This hydroplane underwent a complete restoration in 1992 employing 11 thousand hours of labor and was brought back to original specs and splendour.

An important and highly collectable vessel, in concours conditions and perfect working order.
