Accommodations Beautifully finished interior accommodations for up to 6 plus crews quarters in a Herreshoff Style interior with varnished Mahogany trim on white flat panels with a varnished teak and holly sole. With her 3 large hatches, dorades, and large wheelhouse windows, and ports fitted in the hull, she is a bright airy, and comfortable boat in a wide range of conditions but when necessary, there is a Dickinson Newport propane cabin heater mounted in the Salon that will allow extended season cruising or take the chill off on a foggy morning. Headroom in the Salon and Galley area is in excess of 7'-10" and 6'-4" at the fwd end of the Salon and in the Master Stateroom. 110 volt DC lighting throughout. Starting forward in the Fo'c'sle is the separate Crew's Quarters with single berth to starboard, with lockers below and hanging locker and shelves to port. A ladder allows private access from the fore deck. Next aft is the Master Head (which may be accessed from the Fo'clse) featuring to port, a manual Groco W.C. plumbed overboard, porcelin sink with H&C pressure water with locker outboard, and additional stowage in a locker with shelves, opposite to starboard is a large hanging locker. Immediately aft is the spacious Master Stateroom featuring wide single berth P&S with several large drawers below each berth. Above the berths there are shelves with fiddles and there is a bureau aft and to port with drawers and a locker. Continuing aft one finds the Main Salon which is especially spacious and well laid out. To starboard and forward there is a dining settee with thwartship bench seats with storage under. The table may be dropped down to make this up into a comfortable double berth. Outboard of the settees there is storage in shelves and lockers. Adjacent to the fwd settee is a small bureau with drawers while aft of the settees is a handsome bureau with drawers above which is a leaded glass front china closet. Opposite to starboard there is forward most a large hanging locker followed outboard by a pilot berth with storage below, then inboard a deep settee which may be made into a berth, a bureau aft affords more storage in drawers and the previously mentioned cabin heater is adjacent. Furthest aft on the lower deck, one finds the Aft Head with separate stall shower compartment, Groco manual W.C. plumbed via a Y valve to the holding tank, porcelain sink with H&C pressure water and thoughtfully laid out storage in 3 different lockers. The Galley is furthest aft and to starboard and is again properly laid out and functional as well as spacious. The Galley features a large deep stainless steel sink with H&C pressure water, stainless steel counter surfaces, and excellent stowage in several lockers and drawers. Cooking is handled from her traditional Shipmate 4 burner propane stove and overhead mount propane oven. Aft is a 15 cu ft GE stainless steel 110 Volt refrigerator freezer original but completely trouble free! Included is a duplicate low hour unit that came off another yacht. The companion way ladder swings up to provide access to the "crouching standing room" engine compartment (mechanicals detailed below). Up 5 steps to the Deck House with P&S side doors as well as a door leading to the aft deck with 6'-5"+ head room. The helm station is to port with a swivel seat on a bronze pedestal. Aft and to starboard is an L-Settee and drop leaf table for dining. There is a drop down mahogany serving table to port that easily stows away when not in use. Exiting the aft door of the deck house you access the inviting aft deck with transom seat, bench seats P&S (with storage under) and bench seat forward below which there is storage in a locker. Tons of additional space for deck chairs and the like should one desire. Wide side decks with bulwarks and railings lead forward to the open foredeck with another decks storage box.

Additional We have always been impressed by BURMA and our personal inspection of her has proved our thoughts of her to be well formed. Both her construction and care are impressive. She will appeal to those who appreciate craftsmanship in a wonderfully wholesome vessel. We have prepared a CD with over 60 high resolution photographs of this special yacht and will gladly mail you one upon request. The lapstrake yacht tender and assoc. chocks shown in some of the photographs is specifically excluded. We have known BURMA for many years, her distinctive good looks make her a head turning standout in any harbor. Her designer, R. O. Davis drew many of the lines for the well know Hand Motorsailers including NOR'EASTER while in the William Hand office from 1927 through 1941 before becoming the principal designer at the Henry B. Nevins Yard in 1942. She was profiled in WoodenBoat issue #97 (Nov./Dec. '90). Originally built for Frank Bissel (NYYC member #1)who specified that she be a comfortable and capable sea boat. He owned her for 32 years ran her by himself for some 30,000 miles before donating her to a non-profit which immediately sold her to a party that owned her for just 1-2 years prior to the current owner purchasing her. Her current owner, an experienced yachtsman and seaman has meticulously cared for her throughout his ownership. Her design and construction as well as her care has been flawlessly attended to so that she has never required any extensive re-fit and a personal inspection will prove as much! |
