Wayward Wind’s History The owners of this Cruising modified Oceanis 440 sailed this vessel approximately ten years in the Eastern and Western Caribbean covering over 10,000 nautical miles. The vessel was originally purchased by this owner from the Chicago owner in 1998. Modifications were made to prepare for a world circumnavigation which was canceled due to 911. After purchased from the first owner, the boat trucked from its original location of Chicago to its new home port of New Orleans. There modifications began with new teak cabinetry built in the galley and forward stateroom. The galley had plate drainage area modified for storing two levels of can goods. Another galley cabinet was built forward on the port side with sections for plates, saucers, bowls and cups. In the forward stateroom a large hanging closet on the port and shelving cabinet to the starboard. On each side of the V-berth, cabinets were added as well in Seabrook Ship Yard installed the 5.5 Phasor generator in the starboard aft stateroom. A sound insulated teak cabinet was built around it. A 400 gpd water desalination unit was installed inside this area as well. Seabrook also installed forward and aft air conditioners. They also converted a 50 gal. water tank to fuel under the forward v-berth. A Racor 500 flitration system and transfer pump was installed to transfer the diesel to the aft fuel tank accounting for a total of 110 gal. fuel capability. An oil Reverso Pump was installed for changing oil in the Yanmar main engine and the Kubota generator engines. The owner decided to add a solid hard bimini with solid hand holds. Previous offshore sailing proved many bimini frames seemed too flimsy while being flailed on other boats. The white fiber glassed foam cored bimini matches the lines of the vessel. This also allowed for an almost totally enclosed cockpit if desired. Easy attachment of the windows and numerous types of covers allows for protection for rain, seas and sun. While others sail in foul weather gear because of cold or rain, this cockpit stays dry and comfortable. The owners then left New Orleans in 1999 via Bahamas and down islands to Trinidad. This is where very sturdy stainless davits, security bars for companion way/hatches, radar mount and wind generator mount were made. The insulation in the freezer and refrigerator were insulated to a minimum of 6 inches foam. In the aft stateroom the bed was raised 2 inches to accommodate 4 new Trojan 105 gulf cart batteries for the house. The boat sailed the Trinidad/Venezuela area for 2 years. 2002 the boat was sailed to Bonaire and then straight north across Caribbean to return to New Orleans. While in New Orleans in 2004, the three main cabin Lewmar coastal hatches, two in the forward stateroom and one in main salon, were replaced with offshore Bomar Hatches. In 2004 the owners sailed the boat from New Orleans southward following the Central American coast to Colombia; travelling back and forth and spending time in many of their favorite areas before returning to their present location in New Orleans in the spring of 2010. While in Guatemala in 2009, additional teak sliders and were added to the salon and galley cabinets to enhance usage as well as visual appeal. Since the return to New Orleans in 2010, the original Lewmar ports were replaced with updated model of Lewmar ports. In 2011 the 4 Trojan Gulf Cart Batteries were replaced as well |

Brokers Remarks BROKERS REMARKS The listing agent met this owner in 1992 and sold him a smaller 35’ boat and when he was ready to retire and go cruising he had exacting requirements of what he wanted in his next boat and in the later 90’s we went searching for a larger cruising boat. A mid 40’s 3 cabin boat (so that one cabin could be converted to machinery and storage space) was in order and we found this boat on the Great Lakes and had it brought down. He then took about a year and customized the boat and added gear he and his wife needed to go cruising. The boat has been highly modified to suit this need and has served this cruising couple well over the past 14 years. One of the aft cabins was converted to the machinery storage space and over the course of cruising other necessary items like Custom cabinetry has been added to the salon and forward cabin spaces that has added over 50% more storage inside this boat than a standard Beneteau 440. Also added was a foam cored fiberglass hard top as well as a heavy set of davits. This boat is truly set up for cruising with everything you need but nothing you don't. She has also been well maintained by a hands on owner and especially considering she has probably sailed over 10,000 miles for this cruising couple. Located in New Orleans she requires some notice to be shown. |
