Accommodations and Layout The sleek, dark blue, vacuum-bagged Sabre hull, complete with two-tone deck and an optional teak and stainless steel bang rail, epitomizes quality in every detail, an impression made even more obvious when you go below. Beautifully finished cherry bulkheads, furnishings and cabinetry blend with teak and holly cabin soles. Bright, sturdy, ultrasuede upholstery on the saloon and aft stateroom seating contrast with the subtle barley fabric on the stateroom mattresses. The galley, head and foreward stateroom counters are Corian. In those same spaces, a Force 10 water heater serves the pressure fresh water system, which also feeds a cockpit shower. Large windows, stainless steel opening portlights, transparent overhead hatches, and two large dorade vents combine to admit nautral light and provide ventilation. All hatches have built-in screens and blinds and all windows have accordian blinds. There's an abundance of well-placed lighting fixtures to brighten the cabins when darkness falls. The warm welcome of these spaces can be warmed further by the Webasto 90S hydronic heater with five outlets, one of them in the shower! For entertainment, there's an AM/FM/CD stereo, with saloon and cockpit speakers. Here's the layout, fore to aft: The private foreward and aft staterooms compete for the designation "master stateroom." Bolstering the case for the remarkably spacious foreward cabin, with its vee-berth, are wood battened hullsides, a vanity and stainless steel sink with a large mirror, a large hanging locker, and abundant cabinets, drawers, shelves and cubbies. Natural light and ventilation are provided by a two opening portlights and a large overhead hatch. Next aft, the saloon is bracketed to port by a comfortable L-shaped settee -- convertible to a double berth -- and to starboard by a berth-length settee. A hinged dining table folds up and out of the way when not needed. The keel-stepped mast hides against a bulkhead in an ultrasuede wrap that provides insulation, cushioning and style. Spaces under, behind and above the settees offer plenty of storage and display options. A polished brass Weens and Plath barometer and clock set underlines the yachty ambience. The navigation station, at the aft end of the starboard settee, includes a hinge-top desk, drawers (including the trademark Sabre tool drawer complete with all its tools), a computer hookup, VHF, stereo controls, chartlight, various electronic and electrical system controls and monitors (see below). A cleverly hinged settee backrest swings into position to support anyone seated at the nav station. The Sabre's L-shaped galley features a Force 10 three-burner propane stove with oven, space for a microwave oven, a top and front opening SeaFrost refrigerator/freezer, a deep, polished stainless steel, double sink, plenty of drawer, shelf and cabinet storage, a built-in waste disposal bin, and a hinged Corian counter extension adjacent to the sink. To starboard across from the galley, the private, easy-to-clean head includes a Jabsco Quiet Flush fresh water electric head, a separate stand-up (or sit-down) shower stall, a stainless steel sink, vanity with mirror, and numerous storage cabinets. The aft stateroom, for its entry into the "master stateroom" competition, presents a sprawling double berth, a "sit and gitcher Topsiders on" seat, a large hanging locker, shelves, cabinets, an opening portlight and two overhead hatches. Fore cabin or aft cabin? Take your pick. |

Cockpit and Deck The spacious cockpit, protected by its Jason Iverson dodger and bimini, is laid out to ease short handed sailing. Primary winches are close by the helm. One of the two line handling winches on the cabin top are is electric, making raising the mainsail a push button operation. Stretch-out seating with good back support, a handsome teak folding table, and handy cubbies and other stowage make the cockpit great for sailing, socializing, or a quiet afternoon snooze on the hook or in harbor. Broad companionway access to below can be secured in a number of ways -- custom French hinged doors, traditional boards, or boards with screen inserts. A broad scoop transom with teak inserts facilitates cockpit access from the dock, a dinghy, or -- using the built-in stainless steel ladder -- the water. Wide walk-around decks are surrounded with double stainless steel lifelines and stanchions plus a sturdy pulpit and pushpit. As in the cockpit, the fiberglass is imprinted with an effective non-skid pattern for safe footing. At the bow, a double, polished stainless steel bow roller carries a 35 pound CQR anchor with plenty of chain and line rode. A vertical Lewmar windlass stands by to handle the anchoring chores and a raw water washdown makes it easy to clean the raised ground tackle.
