Manufacturer Provided Description

The new trend to elegant day sailers was pioneered by the notable beauty of this Carl Schumacher design, which sailors instinctively pause to admire. Quality produced by Pearson Composites, utilizing the SCRIMP system of resin infusion by vacuum, the AE 28 also delivers outstanding performance under sail, and is specifically designed to be easily single handed. We have a 15 minute DVD that amply demonstrates that advantage. With a fin keel and spade rudder providing exceptional maneuverability and stability, the Hoyt Jib Boom bringing off wind speed, and a 9-hp Yanmar Diesel adding reliable power, this beautifully balanced boat sets the standard for the ideal day sailer.

Accommodations

There is plenty of sitting and reclining room down below, (3 bunks) but no standing head room. In this size you just can't put on a tall cabin and still have a pretty boat. The head is located under the forward bunk, which has removable sections. An optional sink is handy for washing hands, the ice chest is strapped in place, doubles as a stair step, and also as a seat for the chart table. She has a well-designed access to the diesel engine, which is located right under the companion way. Several small reading lights are strategically placed, and the large hatch on the foredeck opens forward to maximize ventilation.

Six adults can sit comfortably in this self-draining cockpit, and all critical lines are laid out to be within easy reach of the helmsman.  All lines are led aft to the cockpit for ease in single handing as is the location of the backstay and traveler. She has large self-tailing primary winches and controls for the dsl engine are in a recessed panel on the stb side, the manual bilge pump is on the port side. Her lockers have plenty of room for fenders, lines, anchors and life vests. With Hoyt/Harken singleline reefing there is no need to go forward. On this boat, one person can handle all the sailing and all from the cockpit.
