Mechanical Systems

Note:  The former owner of CAVATINA had the Lathrop/White diesel engine pulled from the boat & completely overhauled by Mc's General Repairs in Honolulu, HI in 2002.  At the time, Mc's had been a long-time authorized agent for Perkins/Westerbeke, but provided service work on other diesel equipment as well.  This was a full, professional re-build, and a new Monel shaft & hydraulic shaft brake were installed at the time.  The owner logged approximately 200 operating hours until sale of the boat in 2004.  The current owner installed an hour meter w/ 673 hours indicated as of July 2012, so total operating hours since re-build approximately 873.

Deck Features & Equipment

Note:  The Pearson 44 Countess is essentially a deck-salon/flush-deck design, w/ large windows around the raised salon providing extra light & visibility, and easier entry into the boat vs. a conventional trunk-cabin design.  The flush-deck forward provides great working & recreational space.  Ventilation to the cabin is provided by a series of overhead hatches, dorade ventilators & opening ports in the hull topsides.  The extra large cockpit is well designed for safety & comfort, and exceptional for outside living in warmer climates, socializing, etc.  Two large lockers port & starboard plus a large lazarette in the aft deck provide exceptional outside storage.

Hull & Topsides

Note:  This Alden design has a hand-laid, solid fiberglass moulded hull & keel.  Standard ballast was encapsulated lead.  The hull shape offers a soft, cutaway forefoot, long keel of modest draft & an attached-rudder w/ the prop well-protected in an aperture.  The spoon bow & overhang aft gives the Countess her sweet, classic look, and reported great sea-handling characteristics.
