ACCOMODATIONS: ELAINIUM’s interior is open, light-filled, elegant, and inviting. Joinery is of varnished maple with select panels of birdseye, burled, and fiddleback maple woods to create a bright, durable, and comfortable accommodation. Abundant opening and fixed ports and hatches provide natural light and ventilation. Caframo cabin fans are fitted in all staterooms and common spaces. Overhead and task lighting is well placed and effective with light switches thoughtfully located at cabin doors and other logical locations. The cabin sole is varnished teak and holy. Overhead panels are white/padded vinyl and easily removed for access to deck hardware or wiring. Headroom is at least 6’ 5” throughout the interior. Water and fuel tanks are located below the raised salon sole leaving copious storage below settees, outboard of settees, on open shelves, and in numerous dedicated hanging and shelf lockers. The heads and showers have Awlgripped white surfaces with maple wood trim to keep them bright and easy to clean. The head and galley sinks and counters are Corian. High quality fixtures and fittings are used throughout ELAINIUM. Her current condition is impressive with no corrosion of internal hardware and fittings. Her accommodation is clean and odor free. Primary access to the accommodation is through the forward cockpit companionway. A polished stainless steel ladder with five maple treads overlaid with Treadmaster non-skid pads descends to the inviting salon. A second companionway from the aft cockpit provides access to the aft stateroom although it has never been used and is not fitted with a ladder. A removable ladder is also fitted in the forepeak area to the large deck hatch. This would enable the forepeak area to be used as a crew cabin should one choose to have hired crew. The Robert H. Perry designed interior arrangement is practical and elegant. Starting forward is the forward storage/workshop. Aft of this utility space is the full beam forward head. Aft, through another door is the full beam guest stateroom. Next aft is the “U” shaped galley to starboard with a large pantry locker to port and forward of the aft facing navigation station to port. Up two short steps is the main salon. To port of the companionway is a bunk room. To starboard of the companionway is the aft passageway. Outboard of the passage is a midships head/shower. Inboard of the passageway and up high is the electrical switch panel located behind smoked acrylic doors. The engine space is located below the forward cockpit and is easily accessed from port and starboard through hinged/removable doors in the passageway and bunk room. Further aft and through a privacy door in the passageway is the full beam master stateroom. To starboard, forward and ensuite is the master head/shower. A large stern locker aft of a watertight bulkhead is accessed through a hinged step in the stern. Storage, genset, and steering systems are located in this space. Starting forward is the forepeak where a “multifunction” space is finished in painted white surfaces. All the way forward and through a large ring frame, below the deck accessed furler locker is the anchor chain and sail storage. Headroom in the forepeak is 6’ 4” above removable fiberglass floorboards painted with contrasting non-skid. The 24” by 24” deck hatch is fitted with a removable ladder. Stainless steel tubes are secured below the deck edge to starboard for hanging running rigging and extra lines. Aft and to starboard are three shelves with fiddles. To port is a workbench measuring 6’ 7” in long. Four drawers for tool/parts storage are fitted below the workbench. A wide, open shelve is below the workbench and a narrower shelf is above it. Four dome lights are mounted on the overhead. A 110V outlet is located at the workbench for powering tools or shop vac. Eleven plastic, stacking hardware and parts organizer boxes are secured on two custom chocks at the aft end of the workbench. This forepeak space could easily be configured with berths for crew or additional guests if desired. The door to the forward head is sealed with a large rubber gasket. Should the bow suffer damage and hole, water pressure will seal this door and prevent flooding of the accommodation space. Like all of the head compartments aboard ELAINIUM, this space is finished in white Awlgrip and maple wood trim: bright and easy to clean wipe down surfaces. The Tecma electric flush marine head is to starboard. A “Sensa Tank II” provides holding tank level indication. Outboard of the head are two storage lockers with shelves. Polished chrome towel bars and toilet paper holder are mounted on the aft bulkhead. To port is the Corian vanity top with integral sink. A designer faucet with hot/cold levers is fitted at the sink. A shower head with hose is secured to a sliding shower bar and controlled by a single lever mixer valve. A towel ring is on the forward bulkhead and 110V GFCI outlet located below the vanity. Behind the upper, wood-trimmed, mirrored doors is a locker with shelves. Beneath this and outboard of the sink is a mirrored slider toiletry locker. Additional storage is below the sink. A 14” by 19” overhead opening hatch provides natural light and ventilation. Two overhead florescent lights illuminate this space at night. Headroom in the forward head is 6’ 5”. From the forward head a door to port of centerline leads to the forward guest stateroom. Guests and family will never want to leave when accommodated in such a comfortable cabin. This full beam stateroom features a “pullman style berth” to starboard measuring 6’ 9” long by 4’ 5” aft tapering to 3’ 2” forward. The bunk is fitted with a lee cloth for offshore sailing. The forward and aft bulkheads in this stateroom are covered with a textured off white leatherette padded upholstery. Headroom measures 6’ 5” in this cabin. An 18” by 18” overhead hatch provides natural light and ventilation. Five halogen lights are flush mounted in the overhead and switched on/off at the aft door. Two under shelf lights are to starboard along with a variable speed Caframo fan. Two storage lockers are located up high to port beneath the deck edge. Varnished maple staving finishes the hull side between these cabinets and a narrow fiddled open shelve with burl wood top. Two large drawers are located beneath the bunk. A rope light is concealed above the toe kick on the inboard edge of the bunk. To port and forward is a large, cedar lined hanging locker measuring 3’ 4” long and fitted with an automatic light. A dressing settee with tasteful upholstered cushion is aft of the hanging locker and measures 3’ 2” long and 18” wide. Above and outboard of the settee are a storage cabinet with three shelves, an open burl wood topped shelf, and a deep cabinet just above the settee cushion. Beneath the settee is a top opening bin locker where extra pots and pans are currently stored. Aft through an arched maple door one enters the galley and navigation area. The “U-shaped” galley is to starboard and located in the middle of the vessel: nicely tucked away from traffic yet separated by a partial bulkhead from the salon and the socializing done there. The beige/white Corian counters are practical, clean and aesthetically pleasing. Two 18” by 12” overhead hatches provide light and ventilation. Four overhead halogen lights are flush mounted in the overhead. Ample, easily accessed storage is in over counter cabinets. A U-line two drawer fridge is located beneath the forward countertop. Outboard and forward is a top loading freezer. The gimbaled propane stove/oven is outboard and a microwave oven is housed in a dedicated shelve above the oven. A top loading bin is outboard and aft in the countertop. Large double white sinks each measuring 13” wide by 16” long by 10” deep are of white Corian and integral to the countertop. A Moen single lever chromed faucet with pullout spray nozzle is between the sinks. A Seagull drinking water purification filter with dedicated tap is also fitted at this sink. Additional storage for cleaning supplies is located below the galley sink. Four drawers are located inboard below the counter. To port and forward of the nav station is a large pantry locker with hinged doors fitted and custom storage racks. This is a large, easily accessed and organized location to store galley supplies for extended passage.
The aft facing navigation station is to port and opposite the galley. This area has all the modern communications and navigation equipment one would expect to find on a modern blue water cruising sailboat. This space also serves well as a home office when work must be done. A large chart table has a lift up lid to access chart storage. A ring frame provides back support while seated at the upholstered navigator’s seat. Communication and navigation electronics are flush mounted in a cabinet outboard and above the chart table. Well-organized ship’s manuals, equipment manuals, and cruising guides are located on a long bookshelf above the electronics console. Numerous 110V and 12V outlets are at hand for powering portable electronics. Cables for NEMA data, Pactor modem, and Raymarine data are available for use with a laptop. A wireless router, wifi booster antenna, and ample power outlets allow computer use anywhere aboard. A cabin fan is fitted to keep the navigator cool in hot weather. From the galley/nav area, one steps up ten inches on two low steps to the main salon. Owners and guests will surely gravitate to this bright and inviting space. The term “beyond gorgeous” was aptly used to describe the ELANIUM’s interior and the quality of space in the salon certainly elicits this moniker. Headroom is 6’ 6” in the salon. Five overhead halogen lights are flush mounted and controlled by a dimmer switch for desired intensity. Four 120 volt outlets and four cabin fans are dispersed around this cabin. For offshore crew safety, stainless steel grab rails are fitted to the overhead and maple grab rails elegantly trim out the deck edge to coach roof junction on both sides. Five fixed, tinted ports in the coach roof front and sides provide standing outside sightlines and lots of natural light. Two overhead 18” by 12” opening hatches contribute to the natural light and ventilation. Toe kick rope lights and well placed halogen task lights will illuminate various salon areas as desired at night. To starboard a large “L”-shaped dinette with a beautiful burl wood topped table is mounted on two pedestals. The forward seat of this dinette is 6’ 3” long and the outboard/starboard dinette seat measures 7’ 8” long. Open bookshelves forward and a storage locker aft are outboard of the settee below the deck edge. Bin storage is located below the settees. A top opening bottle locker is aft of the settee. On the salon’s port side, two angled 4’ 4” long settees flank a storage console consisting of three drawers down low, an open shelf, and a tall cabinet concealed behind a blue heron painting. This heron cabinet currently houses an “all in one” office machine. Bin storage is below and outboard of the settees while long bookshelves are above and outboard of the settees. Beneath the companionway ladder is a cabinet with three drawers. The lower two drawers are for files, and accomodate standard letter size pendaflex hanging file folders.. A fiddled top to this locker serves as a “catch all” for glasses, hats, and other gear that accumulates near the companionway. The bunk room is located to port and aft of the companionway and entered from the salon through an arched maple door. A lower bunk measures 6’ 8” long by 40” wide and is fitted with a lee cloth. Storage bins below the bunk currently store spare parts. The upper bunk measures 6’ 8” long and 30” wide and is also fitted with a lee cloth. Three opening ports and one overhead hatch provide natural light and ventilation. The stacked washer and vented dryer are inboard and aft. Reading lights and overhead lights illuminate this cabin at night and cabin fan will keep air circulating in hot weather. Inboard and low are doors to the engine space. Above these are doors to a large storage cabinet.
To starboard of the companionway, a passageway runs from the main salon to the aft cabin. Forward and outboard in this passageway is the amidship’s head. As with the other two heads, this compartment is fitted with a Techma electric flush head, storage cabinets, Corian vanity and sink, shower nozzle, towel bars and hooks, electrical outlets and lights. Inboard in the passageway is the electrical switch/gage panel and engine space doors. Through a maple privacy door in the passageway, one enters the master stateroom. This full beam stateroom with walk-around, centerline bed is as luxurious as one will find on a sailboat of this size. The bed measures 6’ 8” long and 6’ wide and a birdseye maple headboard is secured to the aft bulkhead. Two large drawers are located beneath the bed. Dedicated hanging and storage lockers and shelves on either side of this cabin defy description. Large, copious and well conceived to properly store a complete “his and hers” four season wardrobe. On centerline and forward is a tall chest of seven drawers. A maple-trimmed mirror is to port on this forward bulkhead. A dedicated air conditioning unit and control are fitted in this cabin. Two cabin fans, electrical outlets, overhead and reading lights are sensibly located. Two opening ports and two 12” by 18” overhead hatches will allow natural light and ventilation. A companionway to the aft cockpit is above the foot of the bed. This very large opening hatch gives the owner and companion wonderful ventilation and breathtaking views of the tropical night skies. This access hatch is not currently fitted with a ladder as the owner has preferred to use the main companionway. To starboard and forward is the ensuite master head which is fitted and trimmed in the same manner as the other head compartments. |

DECK & HULL: ELAINIUM has an off-white Awlgrip linear polyurethane painted hull with thin blue cove stripe and gold over blue boot stripes. The bottom is painted with black antifouling. The bow is slightly raked and a stainless steel double anchor roller protrudes from the stemhead to keep the anchor and chain well clear of the bow. The reverse transom has a molded in “scoop” with a lower platform measuring 42” long by 48” wide: great for boarding, assembling dive gear, cleaning fish or showering. Two stainless steel grab rails on the transom quarters provide handhold while boarding from a dinghy at the stern. A center post, fold-down stainless steel dive/swim ladder is to port on the transom and a Monitor self-steering windvane is on centerline. There’s ample passage to starboard of the Monitor when docked stern to or boarding from a dinghy. The cockpit is accessed up two easy steps from the transom and twin/outboard steering wheels make the stern “walk-through.” A huge full-beam stern storage locker is accessed through a hatch in the transom step. The propane locker is located beneath the starboard helm seat. A locker with ample space for outboard gas is beneath the port helm seat. ELAINIUM was built by Dencho Marine in Southern California for her original owner and named ELYSIUM. Her hull and deck are hand laid E-glass and balsa coring. Bulkheads are cored to keep weight down. The composite spade rudder has an autoclaved carbon fiber rudder post. A large stainless steel backing plate spreads keel bolt loads evenly to the fiberglass grid flooring system. The Robert H. Perry-designed deck nicely balances the needs of sail handling and lounging by using a forward and aft cockpit. The decks are finished in light grey Awlgrip Griptek non-skid and off white glossy painted drain channels and coach roof surfaces. Thirty two inch high one inch diameter stainless steel stanchions and handrails surround the entire deck from bow to stern. A midlevel wire rope lifeline and lower stainless steel foot rail combine with the solid handrails to provide security far and above the usual stanchions and wire rope lifeline arrangement. After all, this is a cruising vessel and safety of crew is paramount. The foredeck is flush and wide open with molded in toe rails from the bows to the shroud chainplates. Aft of the mast a low profile, raised coach roof has fixed and opening ports. Side decks are wide and uncluttered. A bifold hatch in the bow accesses a furler locker where anchor gear, the recessed head stay drum, and wash down connection are located. Next aft, a two foot by two foot Lewmar opening hatch provides additional accesses the forepeak storage/work room/sail storage space. The forward cockpit’s dodger shelters the primary companionway as well as the settees and cockpit table. Sailing instruments, stereo, and a large chart plotter are mounted in the forward coaming. The cockpit settees measure 6’ 3” long by 18” wide and are fitted with blue yacht acrylic cushions. The seatback/side coamings are comfortably high for back support. A drop leaf cockpit table with centerline stainless steel frame has two 48” long by 16” wide leafs allowing a crowd to dine in this cockpit. Nighttime watch standing is very pleasant from this protected cockpit with navigation instruments, stereo, and handheld autopilot remote at hand. The aft cockpit is the sailing/piloting cockpit. Twin helms are protected by a blue Sunbrella overhead bimini. This bimini quickly folds up or deploys when desired. The steering pedestals provide good visibility to windward or leeward while sailing or motoring. Each is fitted with a binnacle compass and leather-covered steering wheel. Full sailing and navigation instruments are properly placed around this cockpit. An aft companionway leading to the owner’s stateroom is located at the forward end of this cockpit.

SAILS & RIGGING: ELAINIUM is a joy to sail. Her 75’ tall rig is conservative yet provides enough horsepower to take advantage of the long, narrow waterline and easily driven hull. The Liesurefurl in-boom mainsail was fitted in 2007 to make sailing even easier. Main halyard and boom furling line are led to a powered winch at the base of the mast. Once the main is set, all sheets are controlled from the aft cockpit where two large electric primary winches handle the loads of such a large boat. A furling code zero reacher was also purchased in 2007 and spreads ample canvas on her low aspect rig to reach at or near wind speed under ten knots of true wind. All running rigging is of high strength/low stretch line. All deck hardware is oversized and of the highest quality. ELAINIUM is a sailor’s boat capable of fast passages with minimal crew and effort.
