Remarks
This Stanley Williams 39 was ordered and fit out by one of the most knowledgeable and experienced owners we have had the privilege of knowing. With his vast background as a tech. design associate with Sparkman & Stephens (including participating in two Americas Cups), he spent many years as a production manager for Boston Whaler and seven years as a new build rep. on larger yachts in Italy. He has also built his own sailboat, finally "retiring" to do Marine Survey work approximately 2/3 time. This Owner did extensive research before narrowing in on the Stanley Williams 39 hull as the ultimate vessel for he and his wife's cruising plans.
The hull and deck "kit" was purchased from the Stanley Williams (Jock Williams) yard and finished by the owner with assistance from Bittersweet Landing Boatyard and Ken Flower's Boat Shop and commissioned in the Fall of 2003. She was cruised North and South and in New England waters for four years before being kept year round in Maine and used seasonally as they purchased a second boat for winter use in FLorida.
In concept, she was laid out and finished by the Owner as a "sailors" downeast power cruiser for a couple. Space was left for additional guests and it certainly could be comfortably cruised with four to five people if one so chose. Sadly now an estate sale, she presents a unique opportunity to acquire a sensible, well thought out vessel that would be three times the asking price to build new. |

Accommodations Beautifully finished interior done in the "Herreshoff Style" with satin varnished Mahogany trim on white bulkheads and flat panels with a gloss varnished teak and holly sole. Her spacious interior provides accommodations for two for extended cruising and up to five should one desire to host guests or family members. Of particualr note is her headroom 6'5" in the salon, 6'7" below.
There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation with six opening stainless steel ports, four large opening hatches (two in the salon house top and two in the trunk cabin fwd., two small hatches, nine fixed windows in the salon/wheelhouse and a large sliding door aft that can be fitted with a screen. Artificial light is equally well provided for with polished stainless swivel style reading lamps at the berths, settee and galley as well as overhead lighting and reading lamps in the salon.
Starting forward is a huge V-berth 6'10" in length, below which there is storage in four drawers and above which the hull is lined with varnished spruce ceilings. There are varnished mahogany shelves forward and additional storage underneath the "step" between the V and in bin type storage accessed fwd and below the berth. There is a privacy curtain aft of the berth.
Continuing aft and to starboard are two bureaus, one with four drawers and the other with three drawers, above and outboard are hanging lockers and atop the fwd most hanging locker is an additional deep locker for storage.
Opposite to port is the enclosed head with ensuite shower. Outboard is the fore and aft running Corian vanity with undermounted polished stainless steel sink and plumbing fixtures. The vanity provides storage in four drawers and lockers. The W.C. is a new 2010 Tecma freshwater electric flush. The sole in the head is an epoxy sealed solid teak with separate sump and pump for the shower drain.
Continuing aft one finds an expansive U-shaped galley with white Corian counter tops, single basin polished stainless steel sink and fixtures, an abundance of storage in several drawers and lockers and in open shelving above with varnished mahogany faces. Cooking is done from a two-burner Broadwater gimballed propane stove with oven while chilled foodstuffs are easily handled in two dual voltage Subzero drawers and a front loading Subzero freezer.
Opposite the galley is a 6'6" settee with some bin type storage below and shelf above. The back rest swings up and locks in place to make upper and lower berths. Aft of the settee at approximate end table height is a locker with top loading access while outboard is a locker with shelves. Access to the pilothouse is via three steps that open to provide access to storage under.
The wheelhouse and salon, with its numerous large windows and hatches, is an inviting space providing comfortable seating for the helmsperson and navigator in a teak backed pompanette at the helm and Ultrasuede upholstered bench seat. Forward of the bench seat is a large area for chart kits.
Aft is the salon with 6'6" Ultrasuede upholstered bench seat with storage under to port. The seat is elevated so that the exterior surroundings are readily viewable. A step to the seat acts as a foot rest and provides storage under. Opposite is an L-shaped book case with varnished mahogany face and fiddles.
On centerline is a sliding door fitted with a solid door with window on the outside and full height screen door on the inside though which one accesses the full width teak decked cockpit. There are hatches in the sole to access steering sytem exhaust runs and storage. Below the side decks the cockpit has been enclosed to provide out of sight storage for safety gear, dock lines, etc.
Throughout, the Stanley Williams 39 has been beautifully finished and lovingly cared for. |
