9. ACCOMMODATIONS
LELANTA has two points of entry going below to the guest accommodations, which includes a companionway from the aft cockpit on the starboard side and a midship ladder from the main deck area. As you go below through the aft companionway, you enter a fore/aft passage where the standup nav station is located facing outboard to starboard. Next forward to starboard is the L-shaped galley and pantry.

The owner’s stateroom is situated aft to port. It has a queen berth inboard with settee and custom bureau and a hanging locker outboard. Next forward is the owners head. In the style of the times, the head is large and serves as the guest head as well. Moving forward is the full beam main salon where the high quality craftsmanship is evident. The Teak and Butternut interior is varnished to a high gloss, and the raised and fielded panels glow under the natural light that radiates from the classic butterfly opening hatch and the numerous opening hull ports. An oversized settee and built-in bookshelf sits to port. To starboard is a beautiful Teak dining table and banquette that seats 6 comfortably. The midship companionway descends into the aft end of main salon adjacent to the galley.

Forward of the main salon are two guest staterooms that are mirror images of one another with over and under berths. The port cabin walks through to the forward head and crew cabin. This space doubles as a focs’le and also has a deck hatch for direct access from the deck.

The plush interior was handcrafted in the original style in solid Teak and Butternut, accented
with inlaid leaded glass cabinetry, antique lamps and artwork collected throughout Europe. It is
rare to see an original classic design with such an authentic recrafted interior. Virtually the entire interior has been installed and fabricated in the past 10 years. To the credit of her current Owner who personally oversaw the interior craftsmanship, it is as good a quality as one will ever find on a vintage sailing yacht.

LELANTA truly represents a masterpiece of nautical history which has been returned to modern
standards. She must be seen to be fully appreciated.

10. COMMENTS
The schooner LELANTA was custom designed as a private yacht in 1929 by Boston yacht designer John G. Alden and was built of steel by G. deVries Lentsch in Amsterdam, Holland. LELANTA started her career in the famous 1930 Fastnet race in England and continued cruising and racing throughout the Mediterranean for the next thirty five years. In 1966, after her first trans-Atlantic crossing to the Caribbean, LELANTA entered the luxury charter trade and happily sailed pampered guests throughout the West Indies. The seventies found LELANTA summering in New England, Maine & Nova Scotia, with visits in Bermuda, continuing to winter in the Caribbean. In the nineties, LELANTA was hauled at a New England shipyard, professionally surveyed (Ralph Kershaw) and completely rebuilt as per survey including hull plating, ports, complete ships electrical, tankage, plumbing, engine & generator systems, sails, rigging and electronics.

In 2002, LELANTA was re-launched, virtually a new 1930 Alden schooner. After summering in the Hampton’s, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, LELANTA sailed again for the Caribbean with her Owner for the 2005/06 season. LELANTA is presently cruising in New England and available for inspection.
