Additional Information
Bacchant” - Walk-Through Notes -

Starting out in the bow she’s got a heavy duty stainless steel pulpit with running lights mounted on the upper end. Two chocks are incorporated into the chrome plated brass Bow Piece which includes an anchor chock and roller to starboard.

Immediately following on deck is a stainless Nicro Fico Solar Deck Vent. The old “Gypsy” Herreshoff windlass is next, mounted on the centerline. The head stay is approximately 5 feet aft of the stem. There are Docking Cleats port and starboard. There are four Foredeck padeyes along the centerline

All stanchions are chrome plated solid bronze with extra supports incorporated into most of the stanchion bases. The stanchion bases strengthen the bulwark. All chrome on the stanchions is absolute perfection. She has the extra large life lines with reinforced gates on the port and starboard side. She has mid-ships Hawse Holes in the bulwark.

Coming aft you have a beautiful little doghouse with a mahogany sliding hatch and six deadlights which enclose the forward cabin with 2 bunks. Originally there was a head which was removed and turned into storage space in addition to a hanging locker and outboard shelved locker. Starboard is storage for the anchor and anchor line as well as a small water tank that supplies the head sink. The water fill for that tank is on deck with a cover that secures using a winch handle. The single spinnaker pole is a carbon fiber oversized pole stored on the starboard side of the fore deck in specialized stainless steel brackets.

The painted steel maststep is on deck. It is surrounded by a mahogany guardrail to the forward edge of the house. The “corral” collects the lines, tools and misc. small loose deck gear, while including two of the four Dorade Vents. The 30 amp power cord hook up is mounted on the inboard face of the starboard Dorade vent base. Winch handle pockets are attached to the Mast.. Two deadlights are at forward edge of cabin house and four down each cabin side. All handrails are varnished and can be removed in a matter of minutes for easy maintenance. Just outboard of the mast step and inside the chain plates are 2-4 foot sections of genoa tracks which are all stainless steel. Aft of the chains plates you have a full running genoa track back to the cockpit. There are a number of bales that tie into the bulwarks and the stanchions with protection guards on the top of rail cap for tying into tweaker sheets or after guys.

Coming aft on the main cabin trunk there is a centerline hatch with wood screen and stainless hardware. Faspin hinges allow the hatch to be opened catching a breeze from forward or aft. Going back to the doghouse you have a deadlight on the forward face along with two more mahogany Dorade Boxes, port and starboard. On the centerline is the main sheet block which leads from boom to cabin top back to the traveler. All of the lead block mounting positions have been reinforced with aluminum concealed on the interior side.

The stainless steel traveler sits on an aluminum base on the forward end of the main companionway hatch. The structure necessary to carry the Main Sail load is hidden by panels of mahogany. Brooks and Gatehouse Wind Instrument displays are mounted on the aft face of the house for best viewing from the cockpit. The interior structural beam and knees are all tied together by additional metal reinforcement again gracefully disguised by varnished mahogany and ash. The Main Sail Loads are thus transferred around the dog house to the house clamps and other structural members of the vessel. The area in the way of the headstay is reinforced.

Going aft into the cockpit area you have two Barient 32 winches on painted aluminum bases as primary winches, 2 Barient for running back stays and
2 Barient 28 winches for Spinnaker winches. There is one main sheet winch on top of the portside cabin house. Aft of the cockpit there are two hatches for the lazarette area storage. The rudder post is on the centerline. This entire area was redone and refurbished this winter with a little over 500 man hours. She has a custom made original tiller. In 1983 Pedric Yacht Design designed the rudder and skeg.

In the cockpit you have a two level sole. The engine hatch and scupper gutters are in the forward and lower section of the cockpit sole. The lower section of the seat can accommodate three people each side for day sailing and the helmsman has his own seat on the aft side of the cockpit. Each section has a contoured removable seat made from slats of oiled mahogany. Under the port side seat is the water fill for the main water tank and fill for the hydraulic reservoir The NavTech hydraulic panel is on the port side between the whale Gusher bilge pump and the Shift/Throttle control. Engine instruments are on the aft end of the cockpit. Just above the engine instrument panel is the small tiller with stainless steel fittings that operate the trim tab or original rudder which is still operable and helps to offset the prop thrust when under power. The engine access to the Pathfinder engines is through the center hatch in the bottom of the cockpit floor, is very accessible and has an automatic oil change system with easy access to the dip sticks. The engine is in excellent condition. Under the helmsman seat in the cockpit are two storage lockers that are vented properly for propane tank storage. Continuing aft of the lazarette hatch is the beautiful after deck with a set of stanchions housing two horseshoe life rings. The Second Nicro Fico Solar vent sits well aft. Cleats, chocks and Chalf plates lead dock lines fairly and protect the boat. The stainless steel stern pulpit complements the classis taf rail. Properly this vessel ends displaying an ensign on a varnish oak flagstaff.

Returning to the companionway and going down below on the starboard side is a cabinet with VHF Radio and Binocular Storage, LP gas gauge as well as bilge pump red light system. On the starboard side is the quarter berth for the Nav Station. The Nav Station is facing forward with electrical panel outboard. Above the quarter berth there is a rack to store all life jackets. Just forward of the Nav Station is a propane stove with two drawers and a covered compartment under and a big locker with the rest of the safety gear outboard of the stove. All finished in varnished mahogany. There are three large fixed ports on either side of the cabin trunk and one smaller on the forward face. This gives great 360 visibility and there is plenty of headroom. Headroom is approximately 6’2”. There are custom built-in slats for storage of the companionway sliding hatches. The companionway ladder is mahogany with raised ash strips.

On the portside you have a sink with plenty of storage for pots/pans/dishes plus custom mahogany dowels for your cups. Special cups and saucers are still available from the delivery date in 1936. There are ten beautiful mahogany drawers under sink for storage. Just forward of the sink is a large refrigeration unit with deep shelf and above is a microwave oven which is run off the inverter. Step down forward the cabin soles are somewhat concave so you can walk when the boat is heeled. Under the varnish teak sole are two bilge baskets, ships batteries and the bilge pumps. Looking forward there are two original etched mirrors that were on the boat new and two wing type doors forward where there’s a head to port and a berth to starboard.

In the main salon is a custom hinged drop leaf table and finished around to fit guests port and starboard. The table pivots on brass offset legs. There are three lockers above each settee one open locker and two with latched doors. The bunks have canvas lee cloths. Under the lockers there is storage for three custom duffle bags so each crew has their own space. More storage is under each settee accessible from the inboards face or from lids under the cushions. There are fans in the main salon under the dorade vents. One of the nice things about having the mast step on deck is the fact that it opens up the cabin immensely. “Bacchant” has a very airy feeling. In the main cabin forward bulkhead, port and starboard, you have two large lockers upper and lower with a buffet shelf.
Opening the lower cabinet door reveals two latchable drawers and bin storage. Further forward is the Starboard bunk which is fitted with sailing instruments, tel tale compass readings, a lite and fan. Forward of starboard bunk is owners personel hanging locker, also privacy door between forepeak and head. The head is to port with a little sink and varnished teak seat. There are open storage areas, lockers behind floating panel doors and drawers. The starboard bunk also has storage above, below and outboard. In the forepeak are large Vee-Berth bunks (9'). Port side is a wet hanging locker and port side storage locker. Under forepeak bunks large storage area plus 4 drawers. Most of the sails are stored forward and there’s plenty of open space forward of that.

The Intercostal metalwork under the mast step in this area is absolutely an engineering masterpiece. To have this engineered in 1936 and how it’s all tied into the frames, flooring and the longitudals is just a remarkable feat.

There are no visible signs of any stress or that the boat was subject to twisting and faring under severe loads and believe me they’ve been working this boat pretty hard to win races!
