New Kent office opened in Gillingham Marina

Clarke and Carter Interyacht Ltd are celebrating their thirtieth year of trading by expanding their operations with the opening of a fourth office in Kent. This consolidates their position as the largest yacht broker on the East Coast.

David Chatterton, Chairman of Clarke and Carter Interyacht Ltd, said, “Following significant growth in our brokerage business over the past 12 months, and given that a high portion of these boats have been based in Kent, we have decided to support our Kent-based customers by opening a new office within the chandlery at Gillingham Marina.”

The new Kent office is to be managed by Mr Peter Norris. Peter has a wealth of experience in working with private and commercial clients to provide yachting solutions all over the world. An experienced sailor in his own right, he has enjoyed a successful career selling Jeanneau Yachts in the South West for the past five years. Peter says, “This is an exciting challenge for both myself and Clarke and Carter Interyacht. I am looking forward to meeting existing and new customers and discussing how we might help fulfil their needs.”

Clarke and Carter Interyacht are East Coast Jeanneau dealers and can offer demonstrations across the range, as well as a spare parts service. In addition to yacht sales, the company offers part exchange, free valuations and introductions to insurance/financial advice. The company will now have offices at Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the River Orwell, Burnham Yacht Harbour on the River Crouch, Neptune Marina in the centre of Ipswich and Gillingham Marina on the River Medway.

Clarke and Carter Interyacht Ltd were represented on the Jeanneau Stand at the recent Southampton Boat Show by Stephen Carter, Tony Merewether and Peter Norris, who has recently joined the team. They all noticed a positive rise in enquiries, interest and sales in new Jeanneaus from this time last year and predict an increase in new yachts delivered in 2010.

Company Director Tony Merewether was quoted in October's Yachting Monthly as saying 'Our second-hand sales were up 20 per cent on last year's total already. This could be our best year ever. It is partly to do with the exchange rate, but we are selling well on the home market too. People have seen their savings remain stagnant in banks or building societies and have decided they might as well spend the money on a boat and enjoy their savings. Boats don't depreciate seriously in value, so they can always sell up later and bank the money when interest rates have improved.'

CUSTOMS WAREHOUSING SCHEME
We are pleased to announce that Clarke & Carter at Levington are authorised to operate the ABYA Customs Warehousing Scheme on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs.
The scheme is to allow vessels from outside the EU which are not VAT paid to be offered for sale in the UK in compliance with the laws of England and Wales.
The scheme is available to vessels being put on the market in excess of £80,000.
The vessel may not be used or refurbished during the period she is in our Customs Warehouse or Temporary Removal Area. However she can have basic maintenance and be launched for sea trial.
With our proximity to the Port of Felixstowe and strong brokerage operations this is an ideal way of importing a VAT free yacht in to the UK and paying the EU taxes due at the time of sale and rather than on arrival in the UK.
