What is required to register a NEW BOAT;

  1. Bill of Sale on Dealer’s Letterhead
  2. MSO — Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (completed by Dealer)
  3. Customer is required to complete paperwork to title and register both boat and motor:
  1. Boat Registration Application
  2. Outboard Motor Registration application
  3. Application for Initial Vessel Certificate of Title
What is required to register a USED BOAT;
  1. Notarized Bill of Sale or Notarized Gift Statement
  2. Title signed and notarized from bonafide Seller or most current registration certificate (in Seller’s name) if the boat is coming from a non-title State. Please remember, RI is a title State.
  3. Customer is required to complete paperwork to register and title both boat and motor:
    1. Boat Registration Application
    2. Outboard Motor Registration Application
    3. Application for Initial Vessel Certificate of Title
    1. Bill of Sale
    2. 7% Sales Tax receipt (on motors purchased from dealer — if purchased from private party, tax exempt)
    3. Completed Outboard Motor Registration Application

To register a US Coast Guard Documented Vessel;

    1. Copy of US Coast Guard Documentation Certificate in bonafide owner’s name
    2. Completed Boat Registration Application

To register an Outboard Motor;

  1. Bill of Sale
  2. 7% Sales Tax receipt (on motors purchased from dealer — if purchased from private party, tax exempt)
  3. Completed Outboard Motor Registration Application
Please Note: FAILURE TO SUPPLY THE PROPER DOCUMENTATION WILL RESULT IN THE DELAY OF REGISTRATION
