Sea Trial

At Buoy 8 we believe that it is very important that the buyer has the opportunity to go on a sea trial and run a compression test on the engine(s) prior to closing on the boat. We want to make sure that the buyer is satisfied with the way the boat handles and rides and that he or she is comfortable at the wheel. We also strongly recommend that the buyer have a mechanic run a compression test on the motor(s) to determine the amount of pressure on each cylinder and that it meets industry standards for the year of the motor.

In addition, our buyers are welcome to bring their mechanic to the lot and have the engine checked out thoroughly. The mechanic is also invited to go on the sea trial if the buyer feels more comfortable with him on board. On larger boats, a survey of the boat is conducted by a licensed boat surveyor hired by the buyer.

The sea trial follows the owner's acceptance of the offer and a signed "Offer to Purchase" agreement by the buyer. Once that agreement is signed, the buyer will place 10% of the purchase price down on the boat and this amount is held in escrow until closing.

After the 10% deposit is received, a date and time is set for the sea trial. If the sea trial is satisfactory, then a compression test is run on the motor and if that is also satisfactory, then the boat closes. Otherwise, the 10% deposit is refunded and we start all over!
