Dog Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
The United States Coast Guard "Federal Requirements & Safety Tips for Recreational Boats" pamphlet is available at Buoy 8 Ship's Store. It includes information on Registration, Numbering & Documentation; Law Enforcement; Equipment Requirements; Vessels Operating Offshore; Operating Procedures; and, Safety and Survival Tips.
On Page 7 of the pamphlet under "Equipment Requirements" you will find the requirements for Personal Flotation Devices (PFD). While there is nothing specific to our family pets, aka "boat dogs", Buoy 8 strongly recommends that your pet wear a PFD to protect him and add to his swimming safety and endurance.
Doggie vests come in sizes small thru XXX large and are available from marine supply stores. They can also be ordered from Buoy 8 and the cost ranges from $19.00 to $35.00 depending on size of dog and vest manufacturer.
