Welcome to the Xp 55
The making of Xp 55
Cruising or racing Is always been discussed, whether it is possible to combine the perfect cruiser with the perfect racer.
The answer is of course, that for dedicated cruising, heavier yachts, with improved storage capacity, are best for pure cruising, and yachts without any cruising facilities, are better for pure racing.
For the first category, X-Yachts developed a dedicated cruising range, the Xc range, ranging from 38 to 50 (twice winner of the European Yacht Award for luxury cruisers).
The typical X-Yachts audience enjoy sailing a yacht, which due to the design quality and details combined with the purposely chosen build quality, are giving them the experience of being on board a yacht, with the best possible sailing qualities.
No other yard worldwide has built more sandwich construction hulls than X-Yachts.
Most other yards decide to pay less attention to factors heavily influencing the sailing experience.
Every single X-Yachts hull is built in sandwich construction, to save weight and to enable the best possible ballast to displacement ratio, to enable the yacht to carry a large enough sail area to “perform” in lighter winds, but also enables the yacht to carry the sail area efficiently, when the breeze comes in.
In the 80’s, X-Yachts pioneered the galvanized steel keel / hull girder, which gave a huge advantage taking much higher grounding loads than what was achieved before, and X-Yachts have always been delivered with a high level of quality on mast / rig / deck equipment, for instance standard being delivered with discontinued rod rigging, decent backstay adjusters, composite lead keels, recessed through hull fittings.
With the introduction of the latest generation of performance X-Yachts, beginning with the introduction of the X-65 back in 2009, X-Yachts introduced vacuum infused epoxy, incorporating local carbon reinforcements in a full sandwich construction and a carbon fibre/Vinylester reinforced keel/hull girder.
All the Xp yachts´ interior being crafted in composite, partly being used as the yachts´ internal structure.
So, more advanced building technology is still the key to make yachts, which are more thrilling to sail because the “lighter” hull / deck / interior / components enable the displacement to be reduced and, more importantly, allow us to increase the weight of the keel. So more “power” in both light and fresh winds (a bigger engine).
Since the introduction of the X-65, the Xp generation has been introduced, and have all reached very successful sales figures. The Xp 44, was the first model to launch (April 2011), then came the Xp 38 (August 2011) and lately the new Xp 50 (April 2012).
All in all, more than 100 new Xp´s have now left X-Yachts in Haderslev.
Xp 55 Features
The new Xp 55, is a result of experience gained from building 5000 X-Yachts and 40 X-55´s.
The sailing quality will “step up the game” for yachts in this size, of reasons mentioned above.
The sailing length will increase from 16.3 m to 16.7 m.
The VPP tests indicate that the Xp 55 will be 6% faster upwind WMG in the mid wind range, and between 8% and 12% faster on a reach in a breeze of 20 knots.
Standard specification will include space in the stern for a 3.10 m RIB, will have 4 large cockpit lockers, a cockpit table, which neatly can be stored under the cockpit floor, next to the space for the lift raft.
There are standard 4 large self tailing winches, which operate all halyards, sheets and trim lines in the aft end of the comfortable and well protected cockpit.
The wheel pedestals will be customized to hold the instruments the clients demand.
The optional bow sprit in carbon fibre, which elegantly hides the yachts anchor arm, will be able to “hold” an asymmetrical spinnaker of 240 m2.
Interior will be light and friendly in a style, which combines the modern Scandinavian “clean” and practical style blended with details, which mirrors the extensive experience of the company’s “in house” interior design department.
Two alternative interiors in the aft end of the yacht enable the client to choose between a version, where both aft cabins have an ensuite head/bathroom, or just one, where the galley and port aft cabin are enlarged, and allow space for additional equipment such as a full size washing machine.
The forward end of the yacht is offered with two traditional options, either a centre double berth or this berth to one side, which then allows passage through the forward located owners toilet/bathroom to sail cabin, which is large enough to accommodate a pipe berth and an extra toilet/sink.
