The Sabre Design Team, led by Designer Kevin Burns, is pleased to introduce our most recent design, the Sabre 54 Fly Bridge Sedan. She blends power, smooth operation, comfort, quietness and efficiency, all attributes required by experienced and discerning yacht owners, and all of which were carefully thought out at every step from design to completion and sea trials. The Sabre 54 achieves these goals, in a strikingly handsome design.
In a world where luxury yachting has become synonymous with quiet, whisper-like running, the Sabre 54 is amongst the quietest yachts in her class. Imagine cruising at 25 knots with noise levels so low (74 Decibels) that normal conversation can easily be enjoyed throughout the boat.
The Sabre Design Team developed strict sound level and performance criteria, and worked closely with materials suppliers and large yacht technologies to achieve these exceptional results. First, in order for the hull to be quiet, we chose resin infused PVC foam core for light weight, strength and noise dampening characteristics. Next, we utilized honeycomb coring, an effective material for sound deadening, for all deck structures, bulkheads and cabin soles.
Testing showed us that exhaust gasses leaving a side exhaust port tend to bounce off the wake and create noise in the aft sections of the salon and in the cockpit; to counter this sound, we developed a revolutionary exhaust architecture. The
exhaust port is located below the water surface when the hull is at rest, allowing gas to run through a small diameter bypass. As the hull starts to move, exhaust is drawn increasingly into the slip stream; and when on plane, the gasses and their related noise become drawn straight aft and away from the yacht. In the engine room, water drop mufflers are used reduce exhaust noise levels dramatically, even before they reach the hull exhaust port.
Her standard CAT Accert C15 865 hp engines are powerful and bring her on plane quickly. Once on plane, she is strong and runs with ease, efficiently throwing aside short chop or large waves. Running gear is sized for minimum vibration and long lasting durability. The shafts are 2.75 diameter, with four blade standard NiBrAl propellers.
Reliable and easy to understand electrical systems were also part of the strict design mandate for the Sabre 54. Twin 9Kw gen sets are installed for AC power requirements; and two cord reels, one aft and one forward, are fed to an automatic AC selector for dockside use. No matter which cord is plugged in or which gen set is running, the system selector chooses the source, without a need to specify which switches are on or off. This same ease of operation applies to the DC panels, where just one switch opens all house battery circuits. All individual circuit breakers are found on the more complex panel in the engine room. Systems requiring 24 hour supply are excluded from the master switches.

The Sabre 54 harmoniously blends traditional Downeast styling with modern appointments, offering ample, open and welcoming spaces. Entering through her full size stainless steel framed sliding door, one is immediately aware of the light and brightness of the salon. With large surrounding windows, the sense of space is dramatic and convivial.
To port is a very large and extremely comfortable U-shaped settee and a beautiful inlaid table with an elegant high gloss finish. We took seating comfort to new levels by using webbing in the seat boxes to achieve the feel of a luxurious sofa. To starboard an L-shaped cabinet contains a flat screen television on an electric lift and a standard surround sound audio system.
To port alongside the helm is an elevated L-shaped settee where two or three crew members can comfortably gather. And to starboard two standard Stidd helm seats each adjust to the perfect height for both helmsperson and mate. Outboard of the helm is a weatherproof, hinged door that allows direct access to the side deck from the helm station.
The owners of Traveler, the Sabre 54 Fly Bridge pictured here, chose to open up the main salon by installing just one Stidd helm chair and reducing the size of the starboard side cabinetry. This personalization of the interior joinery and equipment is typical of 54 orders, as many owners customize the layout to best suit their personal boating lifestyles.
Lighting in the interior is cool LED type. These light fixtures consume considerably less battery power and create much less heat. All overhead lights are dimmable. Over the helmsman’s area the lighting in the valance can be changed from blue to red or white for nighttime navigation. Sconce wall fixtures create a soft and elegant ambiance.
The design of the Master Suite creates an elegant and comfortable stateroom. Shoji style passageway pocket doors open to a large and welcoming space. An early decision in the drawing process led us to locate the master cabin amidships, where wave noise and motion are at a minimum. A hull port allows light from the water to reflect into the cabin, where a queen sized berth is surrounded by graceful wood working details. An inlaid head board, inlaid bed side table tops and another inlaid dresser top all shine with a deep and rich varnished finish.
Lighting is extraordinary throughout with cool LED overhead lights, all dimmable from switches at the head board. A flat screen television and DVD player are conveniently located on the aft side of the cedar-lined hanging locker. Drawers, a tall dresser and ample storage spaces are provided for the owner’s personal gear. The queen-sized berth lifts on an electronic ram to expose large storage spaces below for bulky items such as golf clubs. Another Shoji door leads to the master head with its designer glass sink, ceramic tiled floors and large shower area.
This “coastline” galley has many of the features found in a custom home. Quartz countertops and a hull port light define the style of this space. Two sets of drawer-style refrigerator/freezers will store all of the provisions required for an extended cruise. A built-in coffee maker, a dishwasher and a washer-drier round out the well thought-out list of standard features of a galley clearly designed for spending considerable time on board.
Unlike many yacht “down-galleys”, the Sabre 54 galley is bright and airy. Overhead, the large forward windscreens of the yacht shed light down into this space. The hull port light above the counter reflects light from the water outside and two large opening ports above the counter and an opening hatch overhead, provide volumes of fresh air to the space.
Forward, the guest stateroom is a large, welcoming and pleasant space. An island queen berth is placed low to the cabin sole for easy access. Several drawers and storage spaces are provided for all of your guests’ gear and personal belongings. A cedar lined hanging locker and storage lockers above the berth exhibit the same fine woodworking details for which Sabre’s craftsmen and women are so well known. This berth also lifts to open up large volume storage spaces below.
Guests will enjoy the comfort of a private head with stall shower, the luxury of solid surface countertops, and ceramic tiled flooring under foot. A fresh water flush head keeps salt water odors from the living spaces.
The exterior spaces of the Sabre 54 Fly Bridge are a boat owner’s dream. From stem to stern, every detail has been thought out with care. Hardware has been carefully chosen for quality and reliability, or custom built when not readily available. You will find the deck to be safe, secure, sea-worthy and comfortable to walk on.
At the bow, a custom anchor roller provides the tools required to easily launch and recover two anchors. Fresh and salt water wash downs are nearby for cleaning the ground tackle. All of this detail is recessed into the foredeck so that debris from the anchor and chain drains below deck rather than down the side deck.
Perimeter rails are heavy duty 316 stainless steel tubing, sized for maximum security. Hand rails are found at every point from the bow to the safety of the cockpit.
Underfoot an aggressive diamond anti slip pattern and a toe rail allow footing to be safe and secure.
Along the side deck and below the hard top overhang is a sturdy hand rail, and at the cockpit steps another easily reachable hand rail. An outward-opening transom door leads to a large swim platform with an optional dinghy lift system is available for dinghy stowage.
Access to the engine room of the Sabre 54 Fly Bridge is through a wide opening created by hydraulically raising the steps on centerline in the cockpit. This open, well insulated, and well lit space allows easy access to all mechanical and electrical systems on board. A 9Kw gen set with integral sound shields is located to each side aft of the main 865 hp diesel engine. Diamond pattern steel flooring, white gelcoated surfaces and bright lights maximize the light in this space. Fuel polishing systems and dual Racor filters limit operational issues. Saddle fuel tanks are located outboard of each engine and have sight gauges for added operator confidence.
Engines are sided so that all service points, remote panels and equipment such as starter motors are hung on the inside of each motor. To reduce heat and temperatures inside the yacht, a 24VDC ventilation system blows air through the engine room and exhausts it into the cockpit.
The main DC electrical panel, a convenient tool box, and the four air conditioning compressors are located forward of the engines.
The Quick Shift transmissions on board are two stage hydraulic gears that shift smoothly and silently and create none of the “jump” that is typical of large motor yachts. When shifted into gear the propellers will turn at as little as 50 RPM giving the helmsman full control over the fore and aft movement of the vessel.
The helm has been carefully and ergonomically designed, and offers the latest in equipment to make the operation of the Sabre 54 easy, responsive and precise. A standard bow thruster for low speed maneuvering and Twin Disc Quick Shift transmissions will make maneuvering easy with just a few minutes of training. The navigational electronics panels are large enough to house two large LCD screens
The hull of the Sabre 54 has very little bow rise while large windscreens and small vertical support columns give the helmsman a clear view of the waters ahead. On rainy days, large and powerful windshield wipers maintain an unobstructed view.

Tabbing creates an extremely strong structure by making every piece of furniture a structural part of the whole assembly.
On deck we select the best production hardware available, or when necessary, we design and have custom fabricated the parts that we need. Below the surface where copper wire is hidden with it’s plastic coating we use tinned wire products so as to virtually eliminate corrosion in the electrical system of the yacht.
