CRUISING YACHTS SAIL CALIFORNIA NOW REPRESENTING KERNAN/COURABLE ES44
The New ES44 is the evolution of the successful Kernan/Courable custom designed 44 foot Wasabi. Earning its pedigree, Wasabi took home a string of bullets in the IRC class at the St. Francis Big Boat Series. The ES 44 promises to take this pedigree one step further. She is designed to be exciting to race around the buoys while offering a comfortably fast and stable platform for offshore races. The New ES44 fits ideally into the top end of the IRC2 class and can be raced by a crew of 9.
ES Yachts, was formed in the fall of 2010 to develop and market series built medium to large racing sail boats. A review of the market reveals that although there are numerous builders of medium to large production racer cruisers there are few builders of production medium to large racing sailboats.
The team at ES Yachts looked at Wasabi's record, which speaks for itself, and felt the platform had potential for even greater performance. The ES44's rig dimensions have been increased and the displacement reduced by way of modifications for the laminate schedule, materials and constructions methods. These Modifications, along with the inherent stiffness of the hull designs, have allowed the draft to bow reduced while actually improving performance with little effect on the boat's rating. The ES44 promises to be great boat for around the cans or distance racing.
Until now, such boats were left to custom builders. ES Yachts fills this gap in the market by building high quality race boats designed by top designers. The first boat in the line is the ES44.
The ES44 is refinement of the highly successful 44' racer "Wasabi", designed by Kernan Courouble Yacht Design and constructed by Dencho Marine in California. Launched in 2009 Wasabi has generated an exceptional race record on the West Coast of the United States:
2009: IRC series in San Francisco-1st Overall.
IRC Rolex Big Boast Series-San Francisco-2nd in class.
2010: Ullman Sails Inshore Championship: 1st in class;
Two Island race: 1st in Class, 2nd Overall
IRC Rolex Big Boat Series-San Francisco-1st in class
After extensive discussions with the designers, sailors and consultants involved in the R & D of the boat, it was felt that there was room for even greater performance from the Wasabi platform. As a result, the design optimization process focused on the increasing the performance and further optimizing the IRC rating.
