The Swan 53 has a voluminous hull that allows for comfortable living space on board. Designed to ensure a smooth sail in every condition, she has a generous interior space due to her high volume. The high displacement of the Swan 53 is ideally suited to her purpose as an ocean cruising yacht. In a true cruiser, a little wieght is welcome as it helps to porvide her owner with comfortable living on board. The Swan 53's graceful hull is constructed with single skin laminate with a vinylester skin coat.
In keeping with the easy handling concept of the Swan 53, the sturdy aluminium rig has twin swept back spreaders and all lines are led directly to the large cockpit. The non overlapping jib makes the yacht very suitable for short-handed sailing as does the single-line reefing system. The Swan 53 is equipped to fly a gennaker that is launched and retrieved with a suffer, a very safe and convenient way of increasing sail area offwind. The normal jib and large main sail are a powerful combination, allowing the Swan 53 to reach significant speeds with ease.
The Swan 53 has been designed by Germn Frers to embody all of the most essential aspects of a true cruising yacht. Her hull shape enables her to pass through the world's toughest seas without pounding or violent motions, her dimensions allow for ease of movement around the yacht, both above and below deck, and her social spaces allow for the camaraderie so integral to her owner's cruising enjoyment. with her advanced design features and seaworthiness, the Swam 53 can be relied upon for performance.
The deck if the Swan 53 is of sandwich construction, with hard foam core and reinforcements in areas of high load. The teak used throughout the deck and cockpit gives her the quintessential appearance of a Swan, beautifully finished using traditional craftsmanship. The Swan 53 is designed to be sailed from the cockpit and her twin wheels provide a choice of excellent helming positions with good visibility. They allow for freedom of movement around the cockpit and easy access from the generous open transom all the way to the entrance companionway. On a classic cruising yacht the deck space and layout is as important as the interior space and this is certainly true of the Swan 53.
This layout can easily accommodate six people in comfort in two double cabins forward and one aft. A four cabin layout is also available, able to accomodate eight and comprising a galler that is slightly reduced in size.
The navigation table on the starboard side forward of the galley has a settee on either side, encouraging the crew to gather around it and make planning the following day's cruising a sociable experience.
The social areas of the Swan 53 are given paramount importance and are designed around the needs of any sociable owner. Emphasis is on space and comfort, when sailing or anchored, and the saloon is the heart of the yacht, with a large single settee starboard side and a saloon table perfect for relaxing and enjoying long dinners.
