This Great Harbor 26 Day Sailer (GH26DS) is a development of the original “Weekender” version. Accepting that most people use their boat on only a daily basis and might only use the cabin for a cold drink or to sit out the rain, we redesigned the deck and interior layout to accommodate those needs and to simplify the boat.
The result is a lovely traditional look on a Day Sailer that will perform with the best.
To keep her cabin open, we built this boat with a fixed keel. It has the same underwater profile as the lift keel 26s, but does not have the keel trunk located in the cabin necessitated by the lifting mechanism and clearance for the keel. The boat still is of a beam and length to be trailer-able and she is a bit lighter as a result of not having the lift keel accommodations.
Down below, the interior is designed to be comfortable and open. The short berth forward is primarily built for the younger set. The comfortable seats are just right for settling in with a book on a rainy afternoon or waiting out a squall.
The marine head is located under the port seat. There is a holding tank with deck pump out fitting located under the forward berth.
The GH26 Daysailer is in response to customer requests for a simpler, lighter and of course less expensive version of the weekender 26. We have expanded the cockpit and foredeck on this version, but left the defining mahogany coamings and cabin trim thus this boat has the look of her sisters, with a larger cockpit while affording a comfortable layout down below.
This boat is laid out in a fashion that works for weight and balance. The layout is complete with sink and counter for the installation of a stove if desired. The two “easy chairs” are a great place to relax in a rain squall. The head is located under one of the seats, so closing the companionway offers privacy. Forward is either open storage, or storage beneath a large double berth. The whole layout is simple and spacious.
Check out the cockpit space. More than ample room for 6 to 8 people. The foredeck is flat and easy to move around on and a self-tending jib would add to the ease of handling.

The GH26 is a 26′ trailer-able sloop. This day sailor version is designed to be easily loaded on a trailer with its lift keel and removable inboard rudder.This boat has a fixed keel. The finished product is of a quality only found in much larger custom yachts.
Hank Hinckley commissioned Bill Cook, designer of the Ocean Cruising 52 and the International Cup 18 Metre, as well as both custom and production sailboats of all sizes.
The charge was to create a maximum size trailer yacht with traditional appearance and lively performance. The sheer height was held down to maintain a lovely line, yet under the waterline a low wetted surface underbody with fin/bulb keel and spade rudder promise exceptional performance. Couple this with high tech light weight construction and the result is a winner.

The hull is manufactured of biaxial fiberglass fabric in a polyester resin with a vinylester resin skin coating for protection from moisture penetration. Coring of the hull is 1/2″ PVC foam.
The deck is manufactured of of laminated plywood over laminated fir frames with Dynel covering. The deck is white and a contrasting non-skid color is available.The cabin sides and trim are mahogany.
The rudder is constructed of fiberglass and foam over a hollow stainless steel rudder post. The UHMW bearings are housed in a composite tube glassed to the hull and deck. The rudder is controlled by a laminated tiller.
The boat is equipped with the following deck hardware: Harken self-tailing sheet and halyard winches, SS Bow cleat, SS stern cleats (2), Port lights – opening (4 for Weekender and 2 for Daysailer), Foredeck hatch, Jib track and blocks(inboard), Main sheet track and blocks,Deck mounted turning blocks for the halyards, Chainplates and covers, Mast step, Bow vent, Stern/engine room vents (2), Cockpit storage lockers (2 for the Weekender or 4 for the Daysailer).

The GH26 has a fractional sloop rig. The tapered aluminum mast and boom are painted white. The spar is equipped with a hinged mast step to allow for ease of raising and a bale for the boom vang. Lighting on the spar includes a 360
mast head, foredeck light and a steaming light.
The internal main and jib halyards lead to the deck and aft to a double line clutch and winch aft on the cabin top.
The boom is equipped with two sets of reef points and a bale for a vang. The main sheet is controlled from a traveler located at the aft end of the cockpit.
The 1X19 stainless standing rigging includes:
