The Farr 25 is a new sportboat with excellent performance yet be easy to handle and operate. FYD developed its beautifully shaped hull alongside Volvo 70s with an exceptional ballast ratio of 50%, a light displacement of only 930kg (2050lbs) and a displacement to length ratio of 77. These parameters with 37m2 (400ft2) of upwind sail area make Farr 25 to have smoothhandling upwind performance while the 64m2 (690ft2) well proportioned spinnaker providing plenty of downwind horsepower. Farr 25 is also optimized for IRC handicap rule.

Hull / Deck Construction Details
Light and simple are the two words used to describe the structure of the Farr 25. All structural elements are stitched/knitted E-glass in an epoxy resin, vacuum-bagged to achieve high fiber contents with low void content. The hull and deck shell is E-glass over a tough foam core, with high-density foam and additional uni-directional and multi-axial reinforcements used in high stress areas.
Hull shell support comes from a simple one-piece structural liner, composed of a transverse mast step, transverse keel floor and a single centerline longitudinal spanning from the mast step aft to a composite cockpit support frame. Additional deck support consists of a transverse bowsprit support frame and a shallow foredeck beam. A structural companionway strut supports the deck amidships.
The keel is a fixed, a maintenance free “T” configuration with a lead bulb as in most high tech racing yachts. The keel is assembled with a single bolt making keel assembly and disassembly extremely easy. The bulb shape takes advantage of the recent CFD research FYD has conducted, optimized for performance in round the buoys racing and delivers improved lift efficiency upwind and tight reaching.
The keel fin is all carbon fiber, fin spar constructed in pre-preg carbon over a foam mandrel, giving incredible stiffness and strength in a very lightweight package. The complete keel fin assembly weighs a mere 18 kg’s allowing more weight to be packed into the bulb for a lower VCG providing exceptional performance. Keel fin also incorporates a kelp cutter installation.
The Farr 25 features a carbon rudder stock in a female molded carbon/foam blade. The blade shape is of a high aspect ratio for maximum lift efficiency and minimum drag. The foil section is one of FYD’s proprietary custom shapes, with excellent stall characteristics for maximum control in power reaching conditions.
A relatively high freeboard and simplified internal structure provides for a spacious, open interior with sitting headroom on berths port and starboard of the companionway. A low aspect keel trunk is unobtrusively integrated into the centerline longitudinal of the internal structure, allowing for easy movement throughout the cabin. Propulsion is provided by a 6hp o

The large, comfortable cockpit has all the sail controls within easy reach of the crew. The deck is kept clear from lines and hardware is recessed where possible to minimize nuisance. Deck hardware is supplied by Harken. Like a modern sport boat with high-performance but with greater stability and more of a big boat feel. Recognizing that not all sailors want to be in a professional-centric class that requires extreme physical efforts to win, the Farr 25 is focused on more friendly amateur sailing and a boat that can be sailed and enjoyed by sailors of all levels and abilities. But still at a high performance and speed.
This is a high-quality production build with many well thought out features, like the outboard engine in an inboard well and pivots into place; no lifting, mounting and storing the outboard.
The Farr 25 One-Design is an ISO category B / ISAF category 3 compliant boat capable of coastal racing and weekending.
The keel fin is carbon fiber with a lead bulb. The fin slots into the hull / keel grid, bayonet style with a wedge-fit and a single bolt arrangement. The lifting point is molded in to the boat, just aft of the keel head in the keel grid. The boat is single-point lifted from this same point, through the companionway with the keel off or on. The boat is lifted...the keel stood up...the boat is lowered onto the keel...single bolt attached...and the whole boat is lifted into the water. Rigging can still be done prior to the keel attaching, that is your last step; go sailing. It's really only 1 or 2 easy steps beyond a J/22 or J/24 but makes life much easier in the long run. This design enables quick, clean and easy keel removal without the need for fairing. No wobbly retracting keel, no loosening or shimming of bearing surfaces and less long term keel maintenance.
The benefits allow for more weight in the keel bulb and no retracting keel structure and apparatus (unnecessary weight and cost). Boat's sail with their keels in the down position and this is where we concentrated our design efforts. With increased stability, the Farr 25 has a stiffer, keelboat disposition; a little more 'friendly' without compromising speed. In fact, upwind and 'stability' sailing speed is enhanced.
The maximum draft is 1.8m, which does allow the boat to be trailered on its keel throughout Europe and the US. The 930 kg Farr 25 is easily launched and lifted via a club crane with the installed single point lifting arrangement.
