The Buzzard's Bay 19 is Captain Pete Culler's last design built by local craftsmen to perfection. No expense was spared by Paul Siefried who constructed the keel and hull, the remainder of the project was completed by the Northwest Maritime Center under the supervision of Kees Prinz. Extreme measures were taken to source materials of exquisite quality. For instance, the planking is Port Orford Cedar salvaged from an 80 year old Bridge from Coos Bay Oregon. The bridge was dismantled and moved to Port Townsend where it was used for this project and several others. The keel is made out of ladder grade, old growth fir brought by helicopter out of the Northern British Columbia forest. Black Locust from the Willamette Valley created the knees and support blocks. The 740 pounds of lead in the keel add stability; the 1/2" bronze keel bolts- durability. All planks are copper riveted. The brightwork, seats and cabin sole are of Black Locust. Sitka Spruce was used for the hollow mast, solid gaff and boom. Port Townsend Foundry fabricated the bronze hardware, while the sheet bronze pieces were custom made by Walt Trisdale. Sails and covers by Sean and Inger Rankin.
