Island Packet Estero

MAKANI KAI is a luxuriously outfitted Island Packet ESTERO available for purchase today owing only to a change in family plans. The current (original) owners prepared MAKANI KAI for maximum cruising comfort, opting to commission the boat with the upgraded Cruise Package (Frigoboat Keel Cooler freezer and refrigeration systems with digital controls; 100 amp Balmar alternator, 40 amp Charles 3-stage battery charger, four maintainance-free AGM batteries); a Vetus 6HP Bow Thruster with joystick control on the pedestal; a Muir Atlantic 1000 reversible electric Windlass with both deck and cockpit controls as well as 200' 5/16" chain and rope; stern platform with teak grates and boarding and swim ladders; an electric macerator pump with valves for overboard discharge of the holding tank; navy blue UltraLeather upgraded settee cushions and filler cushions for the two saloon double berths; and Textalene cockpit cushions port and starboard as well as for the helmsman's seat (with backrest) and for the two sternrail seats.

A fully roller furling and self-tending sloop rig provides great performance with simple controls. Ten opening ports, five hatches and two dorade vents ensure plenty of light and ventilation. The dodger, connector and bimini by North enhance the looks of the boat and provide protection from the elements. The saloon features a central drop-leaf table that is perfect for either socializing or dining. The forward settees may be used as single berths or, using the filler cushions, made into two double berths. The U-shaped galley has deep double sinks, a propane stove/oven, two refrigerator/ freezer compartments, a microwave and abundant storage. Opposite the galley is the spacious head with separate shower stall and seat as well as several storage areas.

The private owner's stateroom features a double berth with innerspring mattress and custom linens, a large hanging locker, bureau, shelf and full length mirror. There is impressive engine access via a lift-off cover under the berth and through a hinged door, as well as aft of the companionway ladder via a removable panel. The starboard quarter berth area doubles as a nav station and, with the hinged chart table stowed and pocket door closed, a comfortable cabin with a double berth with custom linens.

Thoughtful additions include companionway doors, both screened and glass; fans in the saloon, head and staterooms; reverse cycle Air Conditioning; helm seatw/backrest; Edson pedestal drink holder; ship's clock and barometer.

Electronics include the Raymarine E80 multi-function Navigation Display ( 8.4" Ultra Bright Sunlight Viewable Color Display; chartplotter tied into the GPS and radar); Raymarine ST6000 Autopilot; and VHF below with remote at the helm.

Like all Island Packets, the ESTERO is heavily built, designed for cruising with abundant tankage and storage space, and meets "CE Category 'A' for Ocean" criteria, the highest rating for offshore-capable sailboats.
